I don't know what pots they were referring to exactly, but generally shidei only refers to banko pots that are reduction fired and made from clay in or around Yokkaichi.
Maybe they were mistaken in describing the pot(s) as shidei?

Re: Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

How can we call the oxygen reduced fired clay ‘shudei’? It doesn’t matter if it’s been fired in a gas, electric, or wood fired kiln. If the surface of the pottery doesn’t get oxygen, it is not shudei. From my experience, even if the clay has become black or brown from firing in reduction, potters/m...

Re: Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

I may find myself in some teaware addiction rehab facility. No lie, I dreamed of this pot last night. I’m afraid if I bought this pot, I would have to come to terms with having a legitimate problem. And here I was thinking that no one was interested in the pot! Luckily the pot was just sold a...

Re: Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

I had no idea lol, I am very new into Japanese tea ware. Can I trouble you to take some photos of the inside for me please? :) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5FCiW_kR2OcSEhzM1EwLWtwbHBmMTlLWE5ZX0JQWXdHRzhr/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5FCiW_kR2OcVXdjWkhfSElUUUhIYXlxMldKWWVR...

Re: Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

I would have adopted if it’s shudei clay. I agree with others, it’s a good price given you don’t have to worry about currency exchange and tax if you are living in a county aside from Asia Technically it is shudei, but just woodfired! I've honestly never liked the bright-red color of shudei pots an...

Re: Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

Really mystifies me how such nice pots can remain unsold for so long!? And at a fair price. It looks like you helped me changed that by you deciding to post in this thread  I've had less interesting pots sell far quicker than this one, so I'm guessing it just has to do with the holidays an...

So it's for sure sold? Just asking so we can archive it.
No, not yet sold it looks like. My friend backed out at the last minute so it's actually still available.
My mistake :D

Re: Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

Perfect size for me. I would love to get it but I already bought two sou's and one zhuni pot in the past month so my wallet needs a break. If it is going to be still available in a few months, you can PM me. thnx. Sorry, but I had some interest in the pot earlier in the week and it looks like I'll ...

Re: Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

aw, too bad  I was actually surprised at how quickly this one poured compared to my other pots, probably one of the fastest pouring pots I own. Even compared to my other Sou pot this one is much faster. In some of his more recent pots I've noticed that he's changed the spout design slightly to ...

Great price, Yamada Sou Mayake is now very expensive :)
Only getting more so by the year. His aou pots even more so.
While we're on the subject of Mayake, you should post some pics of that blue one you have :D

Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

One last sale before the new year :D I've been going back and fourth on this one for awhile now, but I feel like I need to let this one go. I've realized overtime that I personally prefer slightly larger pots so this one has mostly has been sitting in its box since I've owned it. A shame to let it g...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu

^^Very nice!
I believe he uses Shigaraki clay for his aou(blue teapots). The teapots that Victoria and I posted are actually just shudei pots that have been wood fired.
If you look closely you can still see some red's peaking out around the lid and handle of the pot I posted above.
