Re: Puzzled wannabe Yixing buyer

About forums being echo chambers: it's true that taking the advice of random users on a forum is as risky as taking the advice of a seller. The advantage here is you can take some time to read other people's posts and see for yourself whether they're knowledgeable or not. I'm afraid I can't offer yo...

Re: Always boil water?

I watched this YouTube where the guy said you should always bring water to boil for making tea. That if you needed cooler water, to let it cool from a boil. He said electric kettles with preset temperatures were convenient but don't make suitable water for tea, unless they bring the water to boil f...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Drinking Seven Cups' Da Fo Long Jing. Smooth and grassy with just a hint of bitterness. The first time I drank anything from SC was in 2013. I was at the beginning of my tea journey, passionately browsing TeaChat in the hope of learning more about what looked like a whole new world. I stumbled upon ...

Re: Not my teaware but I'm looking for it

Found a cup at the local shop that's closer to what I'm looking for. It's part of an "easy gaiwan" + cups set that I have no use for, but the shape is perfect. Do you know if this style has a specific name?

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

I don't think it will matter much as the scale will not go into solution now that it has precipitated out and crystallized on your kettle. If it is a stainless steel kettle, I recommend descaling it anyway as scale makes it less efficient if it has an internal heating element. Use the same descalin...

Re: Not my teaware but I'm looking for it

Antique porn! And in a thread expressly not supposed to be antique porn 😅 oops! As long as we don't have to sell our organs to pay for them, antiques are welcome too! Anyway, thanks for the suggestions tjkdubya and Victoria. The cup from Purple Cloud Tea House comes close, although I'm lo...

Re: How much tea is too much tea?

First of all I get very bothered that I am spending more time on tea than I should. Feels like a waste of time. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I think it depends on what you get out of a session: pleasure, knowledge, tranquillity, and so on. Personally, I find it essential to have the time to unwi...

Re: British taste in, and knowledge of, tea

I know, I read quite a bit on the East India Company "trading" with China in the 19th century. I just thought it was exemplary of the British hunt for a single tea.

Re: British taste in, and knowledge of, tea

I guess I expected that with the "sun never setting" the British contacted so many different tea producing regions that a wider range of preferences would have developed. But no, they're just like everyone else. I think the confusion stems from the fact that we associate the UK with tea in a genera...

Not my teaware but I'm looking for it

Figured since we have a thread like this one , we could also have a more practical one, for teaware we can actually afford but can't find. After all, we all know how bad TAD withdrawals get when you can't find that specific pot. As for me, I'm currently looking for a flat teacup I saw on T...

Re: How much tea is too much tea?

In Europe there are a lot of cafes that will not allow a customer to buy so many rounds of drinks containing espresso, especially in one sitting. The limit is 2 shots of espresso at a time at some places, 4 at others. In Sicily the owners of a small place, would cut off my sister after 2 capucinos....

Re: Yerba Mate Advice

i don't see the point of using the gourd and the metal straw. sounds like the worst way to drink anything ever. It works because you're drinking it at 80°C or lower, and taking small sips. The straw also has a small strainer to keep the residues out. The gourd is quite practical as well, especially...
