Re: Yancha lovers?
Not all great tea is expensive and not all expensive tea is great. What's important to note is that expensive tea isn't always more expensive. If expensive tea also last more sessions, then it may end up being cheaper. The best example is to compare it on a per cup basis. If you do this, even fairl...

Re: Telling the difference between sheng and shu when both have been stored Hong Kong style?
I think the main difference is that shu will always be thicker, smoother and earthier relative to long aged sheng. Old shengs develop are more 'herbal' or 'medicinal' aroma, which shu's don't have.

What a wonderful story. Hong Kong isn't so safe at the moment, but I'm curious to visit that street. Very generous of you to share it with others!

Re: Anyone know what this is??? (plastic in cake)
Musty attic is a sign of bad storage in any kind of aged tea. For me it also leaves a kind of dusty feeling in the throat. In any case not a good sign, but depending on the individual tea, fixable. To the Puerh connoiseurs: Does airing out in a porcelain or other jar help as it does for aged oolong...

Re: CNNP Tea ID help
It's important to know that CNNP licensed their brand to many factories between 1996-2003. If the tea is from that period, then it could be genuine, though not made by CNNP themselves. By licensing their brand to others during that period, that's how their brand got damaged. Today, CNNP makes great ...

Re: "Oolong Puerh" Processing
The way pu erh shoul be stored depends really on your local environment. I can imagine in HK one would seal my teas completely to avoid too much humidity, while in dry climates just keeping the tea in original packaging is fine. In mild climates with moderate humidity, a bag would do. There's just n...

I'm big fan of the Jasmine green tea buds from Teasenz:

Not a kind of jasmine tea with a fancy pearl shape, but it's superfine and delicate.

Re: starting from scratch with a $450 tea budget?
I would get the following teaware: 25 USD Porcelain gaiwan (aprox. 120 ml) 150 USD Yixing teapot (approx. 180 m) 30 USD on 4-6 porcelain cups, flat (50ml each) Then I would invest in some pu erh for long term: 70 USD Sheng pu erh 50 USD Ripe pu erh 40 USD aged white tea cake (bai mu dan) The rest go...

Re: Favourite vessel size for puerh?
My go to teapot, when I'm drinking alone, is a 140 ml Yixing teapot. This size is absolutely perfect for me. I use about 6 gram of tea for this size and steep the same tea the whole day. When I'm drinking with 3 or more people (including myself) I tend to switch to a slightly larger 220 ml teapot (u...

Re: pu erh and white aged tea.
What's important to note is that aged white teas often have an addition step of steaming. This makes the leaves soft to allow them to be compressed into cakes for aging. I would describe the taste as follows: New white tea: fresh & floral 2-5 year old white tea: fruity & smooth >5 years old: thick t...

Re: Six Famous Tea Mountains (6FTM) Questions
i just realized that there is a Six Famous Tea Mountain Factory ( reference here ). has anyone tried tea from 6FTM factory? Six Famous Mountain Factory is just a name of a factory that produces tea cakes from different mountains. I'd a Yibang one from Teasenz , which was really good and well aged. ...
