Re: Leafy Green Tea
Very pleased to announce that we just found out this morning that our Asahi Honzu Matcha farmer just won the first prize, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Prize, at the Kyoto Prefectural Tea Competition for their 2019 Tencha. This tencha will be ground down into matcha in ~2 month...

Re: Gyokuro recommendations
I would say you are looking for low range... good gyokuro can get very pricey. Aside from aged puer, I think gyokuro is one of the most expensive tea types. https://kettl.co/collections/gyokuro-green-tea/products/shizuku-gyokuro This is my standard "daily" gyokuro. It's $32, but for 50g. But I pers...

Re: Mei leaf
i tend to stereotype vendors to a certain extent based on their location. as a US-based shopper, the UK ranks fairly high on my mental lists of perceived overhead, cost of living, import/export duty, shipping costs, and other encumbrances. this causes me to perceive their value (quality per USD) as...

Re: Mei leaf
This guys is incredibally knowledgeable when it comes to tea. ... I get the whole (ohhh it’s a sales pitch) deal but he seems to back it up with knowledge. You may be (and I suspect are) confusing "knowledge" with "details". Having watched a few of his deep-dive videos and a couple of basics videos...

Re: Leafy Green Tea
Many New Teas and Updates at Leafy Green! We've been very busy and are excited to launch several new teas from our Japan trip back in April of this year. Here are some of the new teas that are now for sale. Additional teas coming soon. Sakuracha - Sakuracha (桜茶) is a very special, traditional Japane...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
I've been drinking those teas I ordered from chofmann. The dong dings are very good--I'm enjoying them quite a bit! Might need to stock up on the dark roast  I find the Yan Yun a bit too sour for my taste, though that's probably just my brewing technique. The Rougui tastes nice and is quite ar...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
ing this traditionally processed oolong. Forget about the name and concentrate on: sounds like by traditionally processed, you mean hand-rolled. Is the tea green? If so, it is not roasted or perhaps roasted very lightly. Do you have a name of the mountain, region.... it was grown on? Do you have th...

Re: Tea Troubles
I don't want to sound snobbish, but if you want a good cup of tea, don't buy in groceries and don't buy teabags. What drives me crazy with teabags is not even the quality of the tea - i have no expectations there: if it doesn't leave me feeling a bit nasty/poisoned, i take that as a bonus - but the...

Re: Leafy Green Tea
We're back! Very successful trip. Nothing specific to announce at this time, but we met with some incredible gyokuro, matcha, and sencha farmers. Also drank some interesting Japanese Oolong and Japanese Black tea. We also introduced one of the Japanese farmers to a white tea producer outside of Japa...

Re: Tea and Me Blog
Great article! I want to be a little careful when we talk about 'Fair Trade' and 'Rainforest Alliance' as means of finding "ethical" farms. These certifications are very expensive, and therefore typically only apply to large, plantation-style farms that can afford them. These same types of farms are...

Re: Leafy Green Tea
As I am sipping some of Chen's lovely tea from Leafy Green, I will say that the quality and feshness of Chen's tea from Leafy Green are excellent. I go through my teas slowly due to health reasons that limit me to drinkng tea twice a week, out of 40ml-60ml teapots for the most part. My unroasted li...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Classifying teas on the basis of oxidation or taste leads to a lack of clarity and the same tea can be put into different categories by different evaluators. You are correct, of course, but classifying teas by oxidation is sooooo much easier to understand for the uninitiated and is correct ~90% of ...

Re: Characteristics of good gaoshan?
Victoria- I met Shuiwen in Seattle, briefly and she was really great. The class I'm attending will be focused on Dong Ding. There is nice video on Floating Leaves site that leads me to believe she is very focused on Dong Ding, so I hope that we see some really nice teas in this category coming from...

Re: Characteristics of good gaoshan?
Here is my 2 cents worth - I'll refer to various comments throughout: 1. Rickpatbrown when you ask about "gaoshan" I assume you mean the low oxidized, unroasted style that is most common. There are other (and dare I say, more enjoyable) styles that have a higher level of oxidation and some roasting...
