Re: Room temp water vs. refrigerated water
For your kettle to crack, you would have to subject it to thermal shock. So pouring cold water into a (very) hot kettle, or boiling water into a (very) cold kettle. The type and quality of the material is what determines how big a temperature differential it can handle, but cold water and room temp ...

Re: white2tea
So here is a silly question: For White2Tea's tea club is there, like, a pattern in what is sent out? Not particularly. There are some months where you can expect a certain type of tea, but other than that it can be basically anything. It can be just some tea (that may or may not end up for sale on ...

i mean these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SO3WX2I/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08SKY5N5L/ I don't know anything about that specific company or their teas, but they ship themselves directly from Japan, so at least it shouldn't be terrible. The matcha seems too cheap to be anything but culinary gr...

Re: eBay has me confused - Bai Mu Dan vs Shoumei ?
In terms of white tea grades, it goes something like this: Silver needle > Bai Mu Dan > Gong Mei > Shou Mei. Bai Mu Dan is bud plus a few leaves. Don't remember off the top of my head if the farmer is "allowed" to do a silver needle pick first, or if bai mu dan has to be the first pick. Gong Mei is ...

Re: Your favorite Dan Cong vendor?
The Yu Lan Xiang and Da Wu Ye were both obviously flavoured with additives, with the base tea not having much flavour on its own. Are there any tells that a tea might be artificially flavored? Not just for Dan Cong but in general. I ordered a bunch of teas a while back that had vibrant first and se...

Re: Travel Tea Set
I have this one from AliExpress. We'll see how long the glass pitcher lasts, but so far, so good
It can be a little fiddly to pack, but is otherwise quite nice. If you're looking for something compact, I can recommend it.

Re: Premium Silver Needle Vendors
So, what is white tea supposed to be? That's a good question. The most common way to describe it seems to be something along the lines of light and fresh. However, I suspect that it's mostly something that gets repeated by people that either don't really know what they're talking about or have only...

Sheng My experience with his sheng is somewhat limited, but I can recommend the 2009 Jingmai brick and 2016 Diving Duck. If you're into huangpian, the 2016 Fade would be worth looking into, I suppose. Personally I don't care much for huangpian, though, so... meh. The Green Hypes are solid, if somew...

Re: puerh: to air or not to air?
I have some stuff in paper bags inside of tins and it seems to do pretty alright, but might be more susceptible to temp changes for better or worse than a thicker material. I use fermentation/conservation crocks. In my experience, they do smooth out temperature changes, but it's nothing drastic. Mo...

Perhaps, but usually the term is used to refer to the wet-piling process specifically and not anything happening after.TeaTotaling wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 10:10 amAt some point active, induced, fermentation ceases giving way to post-fermentation.

Re: Loose tea vs bagged tea and where bagged teas may go wrong
The way I like to put it is that tea bags go from terrible to decent, while loose leaf goes from terrible to amazing.
It also depends on the kind of tea. Black tea, for example, works fine in bags, but green tea is best avoided.
