Re: Lapsang Souchong

Thanks for the recommendations. Specific reference points such as this are really useful. Planning an order for when prices hopefully normalize after Single's Day. Might add something from Zhengshantang. It's no problem! As a point of principle we sell the majority of our teas across all genres at ...

Re: Lapsang Souchong

Lapsang Souchong whether smoked or not range in quality hugely, just like any other category of tea, whether it be yancha or a particular category of green, etc. and not much in general can be said when the market is flooded with mass produced stuff.

Re: Lapsang Souchong

If you want a reference point for "good" smoked xiaozhong aka Souchong, grab the top end stuff from either Junde or Zhengshantang, the two most well established Tongmu producers with history behind them, preferably with at least a year or two of resting. Not necessarily the best possible you can get...

Re: Daxue Jiadao 大学夹道

https://daxuejiadao.com/ (password: kuaile) Tongmuguan update: We're moving onto 2021 vintages for Da Chigan Banshan and Xiao Chigan Longdu. The traditional smoked Yanxun Xiaozhong is now offered in two vintages: 2020, and a 2015 that demonstrates the aging evolution of these teas. In other news: We...

Re: Gaoshan's flavors opening up after a few months

A lot of teas that are conventionally considered best "fresh" I noticed go through an arc in time, and if people are open to seeing the evolution it adds a totally new dimension to tea appreciation. Some may "arc" faster than others however 😅

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Did a 5th steep in the small pot, then moved the leaves to a 100ml porcelain for a long soak 6th steep. Plenty of tea to enjoy after the main event. Overnight soaks in thermos or a big pot is fun after gongfu to see what these zuhuo leaves still have to offer.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Playing with this tea in my more usual yancha brewing method (1g per 10mL, no intentionally-crushed leaves, and three breaths for each of the first three infusions) yielded quite an elegant result with an intriguing musky note of some sort in the aftertaste, and the tea lasted for a fair number of ...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Yeah, zini I guess is a huge category and they can turn out quite weird with roasty yancha. This particular julunzhu however is just ace for zuhuo as far as I'm concerned. Renders tea beautifully.
