Re: Ode to the Kyusu

That's excellent Janice, i have a bunch of work by Shawn and personally I'm a big fan. Apart from his work i have found him to be great person and giving his work and customers a top notch service and very reasonable prices (this is what i think anyway). Only great experiences with Shawn and his war...

Re: Tokoname Thread

This is the smaller version however its clearly by the same hand - even without the stamp :D The fun part is that this one is 10.8cm in diameter and 7.9cm high, where the larger one is 12.5 by 7.9 (rounded up). The type of texture of these bowls really reminds me of a plant or tree's root system. Al...

You mean Shibuya Eiichi, his grandson.

Tokoname Thread

Extra points for chawan and other wares besides kyusu! :) After a lengthy search for the maker of this chawan ( and an identical larger chawan - correction, this is actually the larger one :D ), i found out who was the maker. With much help from samurai Toru. "Tokoname craftsman Tougen Tsuzuki Hisas...

Re: Hagi

Here's a cup i picked up from Artistic nippon last week. Quite the unusual colored hagi by Eiichi Shibuya.. Quite rough glazing too with some scratches from what i would assume to be the wood firing and very unusual crazing even on the matte blacks (i'll see if i can get that with phone camera and t...

Re: Teaware on trip to Japan

From what i've heard there are plenty of "flea markets" in for instance Kyoto that have fantastic items. Its a dream of mine to one day go there and go through it all. I would suggest keeping eyes out on what the people are selling themselves.
