Re: Chaozhou/Shantou
To add to the pile of do what works best for you I can say I use mine mainly for TGY because I don't really do dancong or yancha, but I also quite like CZ clay (both reduction fired and not) for certain sheng. my non-reduction fired ones really tone down rougher sheng in a nice way. It can be an eve...

Re: What tea strainer do you use?
Well the variety of the tea could mean a lot of things... I'm sure there is lots of awful 'jin jun mei' out there as well as fantastic examples... if a tea has a lot of dust, especially if its not compressed that might not be a great sign. How you fill your pot makes a difference too - for things li...

Re: What tea strainer do you use?
I had and used a cheap metal mesh strainer for a long time. These days though I use nothing, and depending on what you drink you might not either. Some of my pots are multi-hole, some have mesh filters over a single hole, some are open single hole... I find if I am drinking decent enough tea it usua...

Re: Vintage nixing pots
One thing that still is a slight mystery to me with these clays is their patina and their original state... A lot of these pots i get are often in unused condition and are quite shiny and polished looking like modern nixing but rather uniform in color. After a percarbonate wash though they tend to g...

The rising sun mark on the underside of your lid I believe is the Nippon Tokusei mark - meaning made in Nippon that I think was used mainly starting or around 1950s and 60s. I've only ever seen it on porcelain previously and assumed it was more just a porcelain factory marking, but I guess it must h...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing
Really struggling to get rid of this build up and have no idea what it is. Two rounds of heavy overnight percarbonate soak, boiling, citric acid soak... I suspected it was some really heavy lime scaling and I'll try with more citric acid but its super stuck and persistent. I got a dental scraper too...

Re: Wistaria Teahouse
I don't see why it being in high demand would stop them from offering it in Paris - its one of those things like a unique flagship item. it looks good to have in a shop and draws interest even if almost nobody buys it - and yes typically such items are usually either overpriced or not totally worth ...

Re: Wistaria Teahouse
thanks both. I actually haven't even checked yet but I got the impression that you can buy from Paris in person but if you want mail order you still have to go via Taiwan? maybe I'm incorrect though. That loose leaf 60s had def caught my eye as a unique offer worth trying.

Re: Wistaria Teahouse
I'll repeat my question here in case someone can chime in... I was hoping to stop by Wistaria Paris while I was in France the other month but I spared myself the stressful city run and stayed out in the countryside the whole time. Planning to go though got me curious about their offerings though - i...

Re: Which water (hardness) to use for Da Hong Pao, Tie Guanyin and Siji Chun?
I would also suggest using the water you know best as a starting point and go from there comparing with a couple different options and/or to consider mixtures. Black Forest is a good one, but I find it a little too soft for most of what I drink. depending on what region you are in and what is availa...

Re: Vintage nixing pots
While I have to admit my overall sense of taste has been a bit off this week to begin with I did decide to do a little sheng experiment the other day using the begonia pot I usually favor for shu. I used some of a cheap Xiaguan tuo that while supposedly 10 years old has seen very dry storage so I us...

Re: Vintage nixing pots
While my sampling range isn't that broad yet to make too many comparisons with various types of yixing, I do think I'd say they are similar to zini in the way that it seems quite variable between pots. across the board though they do produce a tea with more body like modern nixing does. some seem mo...

Re: Vintage nixing pots
thanks @.m. I agree! While I do like modern ones too there is something about these older ones when executed well is really appealing. The clay really does behave differently, and when its a good pot from a good batch I really like how it can get this more tiger stripe look to it as it develops a pa...
