Re: Yixing

TeaTotaling Thank you! Though I wasn't getting any promotion--just more work, less play, and same pay :? Glad to see you're active again after that short break from tea ;) I guess we got our duanni pot at about the same time. This benshan duan is currently my favorite pot--it just adds such an inte...

Re: Yixing

What difference do you feel it makes in the resulting tea? I like to use it with all black Hongcha, so simple ones. It makes it more dark chocolatey and less hay, barley and stuff like that. For JJM and other finer, more fruity black teas, I use a Gaiwan. I have yet to explore this pairing. I often...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Been slammed with work in this past couple weeks but still managed to fit in a couple sessions of Gedeng Gushu. I did a little comparison of the autumn and spring harvests from 2017 to 2019–it’s quite interesting how certain notes have deepened in just a few short years. Lovely tea!

Re: How to explain pleasant bitterness

Is the pleasant bitterness you're referring to the kind that turns into a subtle sweet taste? In Cantonese, there are two types of bitterness. 苦 (ku) and 甘 (gan). Ku is the pure bitter taste, and Gan refers to the bitter taste that turns into sweetness after the bitterness subsides. For me, 100% pur...

Re: Yixing

I have this pot. I like it. what type of tea do you use it for? It looks like it might be a nice shape/size for yancha. I’ve been using it for yancha, and occasionally Dan cong. The size, shape, and pouring speed work well for it. Craftsmanship is very good (half handmade). I don’t own any antiques...

Re: Can autumn harvest tea be this expensive?

I have been observing Denong’s prices for a few years. Their biannual price increase can be extremely high. Their 100g famous mountain cakes from Spring 2018 went from $190 to $299 in just two years

klepto Glad you enjoy the tea! That huangpian is definitely worth stocking up  Re: farmer-leaf. I've had several teas from them at different price points. They offer fair values for their teas. I'm interested in their 2020 Huey Wa -- anyone tried it? I've been going through them and enjoying t...

Re: Telling the difference between sheng and shu when both have been stored Hong Kong style?

Honestly from what I'm reading everybody pretty much was trying to say the same thing but framed it differently. - Shu pu was invented in the 70s, to feed the growing demand of wet storage puerh served with dim sum restaurants in HK - This is why some people say shu pu tries to emulate naturally age...
