Re: NYTimes Article: Increasing Prices of The Great Wines

Relative to the cost of other pleasures, tea cost close to nothing. The best time to remember this is when one knows that I very good tea can be purchased. We should remember a glass of tea usually costs a lot than a glass of wine, whisky, etc. It took me a long time to be willing to pay $1 per gram...

Re: Discount means Failure

The challenge for online sellers, I think, is to determine which model is most accurate for tea-buyers, since tea is such a taste-driven product. Yes, but..... So complicated! Tea-buyers of Teaforum are probably different from buyers from Facebook. And people get confused. I have had 2 people try t...

Re: Discount means Failure

Thanks for being generous with your time to write an interesting post. For several years from mid-November through mid-February I sold overcoats & jackets that cost $800 - $10,000. The inventory was huge, highest quality & top brands were available. My bosses turned over $20 million a year. In the g...

Re: Red Hat Society

Some trees are still standing tall. They had time and space to grow, For roots and branches to spread wide. They still look strong, not sure to fall. Next to the decay, they steal the show; But no leaves or fruit grows to provide. Now sooner, not later, dust is the future of all. The tallest trees w...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Had my first tea session in about 4 months. I continued on with an opened bag of 98k Da Yu Ling..... it tasted a little more bitter than I remember but that could either be from being opened for a while..... Nice to have you back! A pack of DYL that was opened months ago is likely to produce extra ...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

What clay do you use? For oolongs from Taiwan (roasted or unroasted) I prefer using my teapot that is glazed on the outside & unglazed on the inside. It was made in Taiwan & is a type often used there. (From pottery studio where Bok studied. Bok was selling similar ones.) It is not red clay, not li...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Another difference is that the summer slx has a distinctive green pepper note that became more bitter as i got to the bottom of the bag. The LFX didnt seem to have that, and is in general more fruit forward. It is also likely my taste is off. My experiences with wines rarely match the vendor tastin...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Enjoyed a nice 2020 longfengxia from TTC in kobiwako. Found it to be intensely perfumed and flowery: mainly rose and some lavendar. "Intensely perfumed" sounds unusual for that tea. Perhaps I am confused. This year I enjoyed what I spelled in English as "longfanshiu". It came from high up Shanlinxi...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

.... an aged Lishan Dong Ding gifted to me by Bok... It's a well oxidised medium roasted rolled ball tea typical of its type but so complex and integrated by good aging and showcases both the strength and quality of both the raw material and the hands that made the tea. All of the elements that you...

Re: Red Hat Society

Why would someone be interested in these old-person tea practices? That is of course a complicated question. People experiment with different methods looking for variety, improvement etc. This year I've only tried 2 new teas while trying varying parameters & teaware. Why? Over the years most of the...

Re: Reviewing Yunnan and Russian black tea, and a gaba version

Sourness is not a quality I look for in tea, ....with oolong it’s a sign that too much humidity is in the leaf. Possibly, with a black tea it might be interesting, hard to know without sampling it. Victoria, I've written recently about disliking sourness but liking tartness. John B. discusses tartn...

Re: Simplicity of Tea

Is this south end pricing or has Boston gone even further off the rails cost of living wise than I knew? I used to go to Cafe Fixe on weekends and I think an americano was something like 3.50 and was the best I'd had anywhere. Charlestown has places such as Dunkin Donuts or places that sell $15 ham...

Re: Simplicity of Tea

I thought that I was going to read that your expresso-making equipment went the home of your friend to make your ending even happier. A lot of young adults who earn fairly high incomes live in my neighborhood. So many of them begin their day buying coffee prepared exactly as they want it; or, should...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

It seems that tart and sour have different meanings for individuals. It's a difficult situation: For tea for me, tartness is usually a positive factor, a flavor that adds brightness and/or complexity, a perkiness or lightness....For me for tea, sour connotes a taste that is not pleasant, leading a d...

Ethan Kurland Teas We Like does your aged oolong have a sour taste? I am not Teas We Like. I sell tea under my name, Ethan Kurland, via a thread I have in the vendors section of TeaForum. Last post on page 5 has my current list of teas that are available. My aged oolongs do not have a sour taste. I...
