Re: Chanting Pines
I have EoT’s #1 and CP’s diamond teapots. From the look and the effects on tea, I believe they’re not the same clay. Different how, one better than the other or just different? Diamond clay is less muting, shows better details, deeper and longer aftertaste than #1. Both clays have quite strong mine...

Re: Chanting Pines / Chen Ju Fang clay grades
I don’t think CP is actually selling their pots for significantly more than EOT. I used the wayback machine to see the 2013 prices from EOT. 2013 exchange rate of $1.6 = £ 1 #1 grade: £440/$704 $781 in 2020 money. Cheapest CJF £148/$236 or $262 in 2020 money. Oddly enough CP actually offers a 50ml ...

Re: Chanting Pines
On the topic, I'd like to hear experiences with their yixing pots. They claim that their zini teapots are non muting, which is hard to believe considering the consensus of how zini acts. My experience is that their diamond grade is non-muting. The bronze mutes. Silver, not as much, but I need more ...

Re: Different ways to brew WuYi YanCha... what’s your favourite?
Have to agree on this. I kind of half mistakenly bought a very tiny 45ml teapot, thinking it would be great for using less leaves per session. Lower ratios and longer steeps work better with larger vessels. A fairly large 120ml (usable volume) gaiwan can make an awesome, strong and full brew with ~...

Re: Different ways to brew WuYi YanCha... what’s your favourite?
I’ve been brewing supposedly Zheng yan teas from the Huang family and Wuyi Origin. Also tried the ban yan Rougui from leafygreen. I could taste the difference in grades. And also know they are not low quality since I also have one of those dhp that comes in Chinese gift boxes as my benchmark for lo...

Re: Chanting Pines / Chen Ju Fang clay grades
So, there is no choice but to buy based on reputation and what you can see/read online. Can anyone tell me more about the studio that Chanting Pines works with? The specific artist is Chen Ju Feng. Hi mafoofan , I own several pots from that studio, including diamond, silver, and bronze grades. They...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Brewed the winter 2018 heavy roast dong ding from HY Chen in a zini pot. The heat from the roast still hasn't quite dissipated, and I could feel it in my in and out breaths. I'm putting the rest away to try again end of this year!

Re: Organizing Tea Gatherings
Have you been to the Toronto tea festival? I wonder if that might be a good place to meet other local tea folks. If you prefer to start with friends you already know, perhaps a more casual dessert and tea gathering where you introduce your friends an interesting tea that pairs well with the dessert ...

Re: Acaia Scale
I couldn’t eyeball the weight, but can pretty accurately measure out by picking the leaves out with my hand (the horror). Much like salting. Still use the little scale when testing out the tea when first get it though. This acacia scale is so expensive, and only go to 0.1g?

Re: Does conventional tea taste better?
I’ve heard the same from a sustainable tea grower in Hawaii as well. That nitrogen gives the umami flavor. All competition green tea in japan are doped with N (much like elite athletes in the sports world I suppose). I haven’t tried organic Japanese tea yet—haven’t bought more Japanese tea since I b...

Re: Different ways to brew WuYi YanCha... what’s your favourite?
I know this is not a universally held opinion whatsoever, but I believe that "counting steeps" is a mug's game (pun intended.) We can use them in our own analysis but to try to compare the number of steeps I get with the number you get doesn't mean much at all. I get what you’re saying, and I gener...

Re: Different ways to brew WuYi YanCha... what’s your favourite?
I never measure anything, but it seems you might not use enough leaf. Usually with Yancha and Dancong I stuff a 60-90ml pot completely with leaves. Maybe Yancha a tiny tad less as the leaves are smaller and closer together unlike Dancong. I think you’re right. Will give that a try. What is a reason...
