Re: Yixing
Every Yixing studio offers Be Spoke teapots, where you can choose the shape, the clay, the size, the firing temp, the type of firing, and how many times you wanna fire. Usually the custom / be spoke order is the "top shelf" product of a studio, so you get their best clays made by their best artists...

Re: Yixing
It’s very common for ZhuNi of any era to appear glossy after cleaning and a light buff. Zhuni shines more than the other clays? I did not know that. Thanks for the explanation. :) If anybody here has bought a shiny teapot from Yinchen: Could you please tell me how realistic/natural their pictures o...

Re: Yancha Vendors: Highest Grade vs Bang for Buck Vendor Recommendations
I disagree with Bok, although it may be a lack of experience on my part here. I have plenty of dailies sub $1/g that are worth drinking -- Old Ways and Lazy Cat have plenty in that price range -- but I would agree that the teas really worth savoring are more expensive than other areas of tea. Perha...

Re: Tetsubin
I am looking for portable heat source that works well with tetsubin. Does anyone use a electric portable heat source for your setup? I do not have a tetsubin or experience with them, but I would expect any sufficiently powerful electric burner to work as long as the tetsubin has a flat bottom (is t...

Re: Tetsubin
Thank you to everyone who's posted suggestions on lessening rust spots inside the testsubin. The attached picture is the worst spot in mine after several instances of boiling tea leaves, as well as the suggestion of lemon water followed by tea leaves. Is there a certain point at which you guys just...

Re: Holding an online version of a tea conference / expo
hmm...just read through the FB post you mentioned...I'm not sure a tea expo where people tuned in live for a dress up party, pictures taking, and bakery takeout is what I had in mind

Re: Holding an online version of a tea conference / expo
Interesting thought. Many of the academic conferences in my work in have moved online as well (and apparently virtual music fest is a thing now). I think for food related expo, perhaps participants would have to pay a small fee to attend. Attendants would get a package of tea samples in advance, so ...

Re: Spout design?
I prefer a spout that's attached lower rather than higher, wider diameter, only very slightly curved for a better control without sacrificing the speed (short cannon spouts drip and spill too easily for me). While it's true that spouts play a big part, I think it mostly comes down to personal prefer...

Re: Chanting Pines
Is a 50ml teapot a good buy if you will be the only person using it? I've noticed that my gaiwans that are larger than 100ml produce too much tea for me to drink so I only go for around 5 steepings or so until I can't drink anymore :(. Many people have already given you their opinions, but I though...

Re: Song to Ming Dynasty pottery
I’m also curious how one could be sure that a plain looking celadon plate is from Song Dynasty without carbon dating (which I doubt was performed). An antique dealer at a flee market in Bangkok once told me that most of their finds (Yixing teapots, Ming plates) were found buried in Cambodia, not fro...

I had the same visceral reaction when viewing these cups in isolation (ha!) from this thread. However, I began to see their elegance after browsing the artist's website, and seeing his collection in full. I won't comment on the yunomi on fine Chinese tea, as my experience with Japanese glazed cerami...

Re: Running Low on Sencha - What to do...
“Running low on Sencha, what to do?” Panic buy toilet paper! Ah wrong situation :) Sorry, couldn’t help it, every time I see this headline, that reply popped into my mind... Hope everyone is fine and don’t forget to laugh! Just had the thought this morning—if you’re low on TP, would it be wise to s...
