Re: Are your brown/purple clay pots also lonely?

Only own dark zini post as of now :D I find my thin walled one doesnt mute that much so I have had a varitety of teas in it apart from high fired oolongs as originally intended. You can feel some smoothing on young sheng but its welcomed sometimes even if at cost of some high notes. Thick walled one...

Re: Recommended ripes from YS?

I'm fond of dayi ripes, I find that even young they don't have any offensive off flavours, usually keep a cake or two for drinking here and there since they're cheap.
Right now im going through the 2016 aged aroma ys sells and its pretty good.

Re: The Porcelain Thread

Previous piece reminded me, saw a cool looking porcelain pot on display at a museum in Porto, label said 1735, relatively small, perhaps 300ml.

Re: 2007 Shu Favorites

I'm currently looking at some of the Bitterleaf options from 05 and 06. I've heard good things from more than one person about the 05 7581 that bitterleaf carries, good price too, haven't had it myself though. Lately Ive been drinking the traditional storage 2006 7581 tealife.hk carries which I've ...

Re: Yellow Spots on Yixing Clays

Is it really 150ml? that is quite a mistake on the seller's account. Is it sold as 110ml right? (perhaps they mean with leaf). Watery feel sometimes indicates it is very porous...but I guess that it depends on more factors... It is listed as 130ml, pretty sure I measured 150ml filled to the top, bu...

Re: Yellow Spots on Yixing Clays

This pot seems quite shiny, so I would have my doubts in general over the base material. How does it perform? Any noticeable effects for the better or worse? I have the same pot, used it for shu, I don't find it mutes much, a lot more high fired than the couple 90s factory pots I have, it has a wei...

Re: The Porcelain Thread

Been browsing some local classifieds looking for old macau stuff lately or any tea related antiques. After tons of overpriced/poor condition stuff I found an old macau gaiwan at a decent price, looks 70s/80s same stamp as the cup I posted earlier in this thread. Gaiwan itself is medium thickness, li...

Re: Yixing

60ml is my most used size with puerh though I'm getting back into using pots closer to 100ml again cuz they're much better at retaining heat. Those small pots don't stay hot enough for aged pu unless it's summer or my heater is on full blast. I relate, since I rarely drink young sheng I usually wan...

Re: Yixing

Just got a new member in the family, a white label 120ml zini from EoT, have been looking for a larger thicker walled pot for semi aged sheng and this fits the bill perfectly, my 60ml just didn't produce enough liquid for what I consider ideal for sheng, lately been using the 60ml for high roast ool...

Re: Yixing

Yes. My point, though, is that it's not just the high roasted stuff that benefits from porous clay. Even with medium roasted stuuff, I find that a zini allows me to get a very concentrated cup of tea that would otherwise go too bitter in red clay or porcelain. Oh, for sure, depends on what you're a...

Re: Yixing

I know that many experienced yancha drinkers prefer a gaiwan or a decent hongni to a zini in order to preserve the high notes and the floral aroma. I think it depends on the roast, high fire oolongs can use some muting imo, I brew mine in a very similar pot, think mine is f2-5 but the clay looks al...

Re: Rethinking the appropriate size of pots

Lately I've been gravitating towards bigger pots, I feel its less of a question of how much the leaf can unfurl but more of a question of how much is the point of saturation of a set amount of water of the compounds the leaf releases, I feel there is a point in terms of number of steeps where the br...
