Re: What White Are You Drinking
Still waiting for this years 1st flush Darjeeling. Thunderbolt Tea hasn’t posted any yet. Anyone else get a 1st flush white Darjeeling that they think is AAA grade (SFTGFOP 1) quality? While I wait, thankfully a freind sent me the rest of their 2020 Arya Pearl Darjeeling white, it’s organic handpic...

Re: "Russian Caravan" teas
Curious, where you hope to take all this research you are doing ? - since your focus seems to be primarily the history of company adds, advertising, and branding. ........ One reason I focus so much on ads, I think, is that they are sort of the elephant in the room with tea discourse. Online tea-cu...

Re: "Russian Caravan" teas
Thanks! I'm a sucker for the quaint, naive sounding marketing of yesteryear (sans explicit racism- a historical interest of an entirely different sort). Course, makes you wonder how present day tea marketing will appear to the future. Sure enhances a tea drinker's (my) sense of unearned privilege to...

Re: Has the internet lost interest in British-style tea?
What actually is 'British-style tea'? Brewing-wise, it is tea that can be oversteeped; even when the teapot started to fade away, what replaced it was not a drinking-gaiwan type arrangement but some other way to quickly remove the leaves from the steeped tea at the right time, such as a tea-basket ...

Re: Has the internet lost interest in British-style tea?
What actually is 'British-style tea'? Any black tea, tea with milk and sugar, any non-gong fu prepared tea, any tea historically associated with British tea trade, any tea typically drunk in GB today? Seems to me lots of confusion is possible whenever tea is associated with trading and consuming rat...

Re: Introduce Yourself
Welcome to TeaForum smx. You’re not alone, I also still get a shrug and a grin, or blank look, from many people when I mention my interest in tea and teaware. Although, once they come to my house, see my collection, and maybe try some tea I’ve then had some converts :) Thanks for the laugh. The tho...

Re: NYTimes Article: Increasing Prices of The Great Wines
You'd think that at such relative affordability compared to alchohol based beverages tea could at least be carcinogenic. Pinch me, am I dreaming?

Thanks so much for the suggestion as good books are especially precious in the socially constrained pandemic life ('pandamonium'?). As I expand the Japanese green origins of my tea horizon, I see a simple answer to what kind of Darjeeling tea I'm drinking is not simple. After reading on one web page...

Re: Adagio overtakes Steepster ?
My heart goes out to any and all but especially Chip, who donated so much time to TC to make it what it was, only to get burned for their trouble. I remember first discovering the site and wondering how on earth Adagio was making money from it and if not, how amazing their foresight to promote the i...

Re: Special Offer: Ippodo Tokusen Gyokuro 2020
bentz98125 a friend even goes cooler, steeping Tokusen at 10g/2oz/108F/2min, 10sec, 10sec, 20sec. Those very short steeps though are too light for moi 🌞🍃 once I find a good steeping temperature I’ll increase it after the third steep by 5° or so. I find 140f or cooler works well with this gyokuro. T...

Can anyone explain why 160 degrees works for them? With sencha, sure, but with flavor so smoothe and rich at 140, I can't imagine going higer. I've been down to 120 and loved it. So, 160?

bentz98125, i thank you sooo much for a great laughter i had while imagining your trick of transcending matcha liquid into matcha pudding and scooping it in spoonfuls to an astonishing effect . Glad you took it in the spirit it was given. Hope I didn't distress anyone who has a lot invested in...

Re: Your day in matcha
I'm more curious whether I use too much water (8 oz) for my ~4 g of matcha... I guess there are no hard guidelines, so "too much water" is probably mostly a matter of preference. You can try with more water, less water, and see what difference it makes. You preference might very well vary depending...

Re: Is tea a spiritual activity for you?
When I prepare and brew tea I usually choose the tea I want and then decide how to. It can be different for each time. I like to choose the tea I want that suits me at that moment. Sometimes I want to get a Zen feeling and drink it while I meditate listening to my favorite mood music. Rabbit hole o...
