Re: Yixing advice
Nice :) How aged is semi-aged? I would use it for puerh that's at least 10-15 years old. It will be always more muting than the modern zhuni steanze +1 Generally I would avoid using DCQ for Sheng Puerh, with the exception of aged DCQ, which is more commonly sold as Vintage ZiNi as the colour of the...

Re: Yixing advice
I got it last week and I really like everything else with it. Its just that i have been using a modern Zhuni quite heavily for about 8 months and that pot really accentuates the teas. I drink semi aged raw puerh out of these. The new one is a modern one out of Dicaoqing clay. ./download/file.php?id...

That’s great that you were able to get Ippodo’s Tokusen OCTO. Nice Shiboridashi there, who made it ? It looks thirsty and wants more leaf :) 🍃 My LA buddy EarthMonkey that you will soon meet also had it here, and around goes the world. Victoria The Gyokuro is a gift from a very close tea buddy... t...

Re: Puzzled wannabe Yixing buyer
I noticed MudandLeaves posted about a very small batch of clay they just processed. Link below. https://www.mudandleaves.com/teatime-blog/lipini-the-pear-skin-clay Their claim is this is Lipini, a type of lüni which is found in small amounts in Tian Qing Ni clay deposits. In my very limited reading...

Re: Puzzled wannabe Yixing buyer
Youzi yes I misunderstood! Sorry about that. Agreed about the Zini-family :) There are still minute differences but it’s hard to tell if it’s due to the clay or the other factors that you mentioned. I found that individual pots, rather than clays have a certain profile and teas that match it, often...

Re: The most difficult tea
Interesting topic....
I find it very pleasing and relatively very easy to brew any tea... but on the other hand, I find it extremely difficult to brew tea for misinformed or delusional "tea connoisseurs"... hahahahaha....
Another case where complexity is grossly misplaced and simplicity much needed.

Re: 2019 from Wuyi Origin?
I find the price acceptance for premium tea to be a lot lower in the West than it is in the East. I agree. There's a fine balancing line as a vendor. Trying to offer some of the better teas at the relevant market price often leads people to assume you're just trying to make too much money, especial...

Re: Breaking into clay
That's understandable, but it's not quite what my goal is. Since I've never tried a clay teapot, I don't really know what to expect, and I don't even know if the effect of clay is something I'll appreciate. In order to find out, I just want a decent pot which can give me an impression of what clay ...

Re: Puzzled wannabe Yixing buyer
Specific clay types is the new gushu. Every vendor is offering newfangled looking pots with fancy clay names along with fluffy stories about rarity. +1... If clays are indeed that rare and valuable... it will not find its way to the consumer market. Very often snapped up by private collectors befor...

Re: Puzzled wannabe Yixing buyer
Do you have some photos of actual Li Pi Ni? Not the style or texture, but the one made from DST Li Pi Ni? I tried to find photos of old pots of Li Pi Ni, but all were just imitation of the surface texture, not actually made out of the clay. I don't know. I have seen many old duanni pots, some are m...

Re: Puzzled wannabe Yixing buyer
It's marketing... the end result does not look like any old pots I have seen. IT could still brew good tea though. I would focus on broader distinctions (hongni/zini/duanni), firing temperature, grain, and most importantly the quality of the clay. If the clay is super rare or super common doesn't r...
