Re: WTB: Yamada So Blue Kyusu

You could try writing to Toru at Artistic Nippon and let him know what you’re looking for. I use my Yamada Sou blue hobin just about every day and couldn’t resist buying a matching cup. Such a cheerful way to start the day. I happened to be looking at a few new pieces on AN and seriously considered ...

Re: Doped Teas - An Open Secret?

The first tea I ever purchased was a jasmine tea from Harney and Sons and the second was jasmine pearls from Chinatown in NYC and after that different grades of jasmine pearls from Adagio. I’m guessing that a few years passed before I became acquainted with properly scented jasmine teas. Even though...

Re: I need help with an odd problem

I’m using a small towel now but I want something that doesn’t detract from the appearance of my tea ware. The rush trivet is an attractive and traditional solution but it’s difficult to figure out the appropriate size since I’d need to know the the height as well as the diameter. I can make a washab...

I need help with an odd problem

I have this black kinsai pot made by Junzo Maekawa that I’m quite fond of. I like the clay and the appearance. The problem is that the base is too small and the pot has a strong tendency to tip toward the quadrant with the handle and spout. I put a small towel on the tray but the pot still tips so I...

Re: Can't Contact Hojo Tea

There’s some discussion about this issue on the last page of the following thread https://www.teaforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1212&hilit=Hojo&start=75 I was trying to order a mumyoi pot but I didn’t want it enough to take heroic measures. Toru at Artistic Nippon also does business w/o an automated...

My first Hagi

I just received this hagi cup today - purchased from Artistic Nippon. The artist is Noutomi Naoko, a daughter of the craftsman Noutomi Susumu. I was drawn to this piece because her carvings remind of fossil impressions in rock. Its beautiful and interesting from every angle, including the bottom. It...

Re: Shipping Delays on tea

I just received a package from Artistic Nippon. Toru shipped the package on Tuesday and it arrived today, Friday, in New Jersey. Here’s the price comparison: EMS insured $36 DHL UNinsured $52 DHL Insured $77 Naturally I chose EMS. 169C78B8-3E0C-4128-83D0-2A7EC7B64B51.jpeg I didn’t purchase the yuzam...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Janice Very creative use of flat shibo for HK! Necessity brought about by the jasmine thread you started. I have 2 unglazed Bero pots. I know the one that’s devoted to jasmine has picked up the fragrance because one early morning session I absentmindedly drank the water I had put in the pot to preh...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

My seasonal tea drinking routine calls for early harvest Chinese greens. I was inspired by the thread about brewing jasmine tea in unglazed tea ware to experiment with some pots that were languishing in the back of the cabinet. Andrezs Bero pots have become my brewing stars this season. I’ve been us...

Re: Hojo Tea

I’m surprised that the online Japanese store does so little business that it doesn’t support an assistant to Hojo to process orders. I had a strong “craving” for a mumyoi pot after reading posts here but not strong enough to try the alternate methods that helpful members shared with me. Maybe when t...

Re: Your day in tea

klepto This weekend I lived on Malaysian time so I could buy a nice Hojo pot. Having some green tea in a glass but forgot that larger vessels don't cool down fast but was forced to remember  Is there a new website that eliminates the need for emails? I tried to buy a mumyoi pot recently and a...

Re: Jasmine tea and unglazed clay

I agree that low-cost or low-quality jasmine is usually sprayed and has petals added to reinforce the spray. There are vendors I trust, such as Sevencups, that sell this style made from good quality tea and jasmine. High quality or poor quality - this style still doesn’t appeal to me. Here’s an exam...

Re: Jasmine tea and unglazed clay

Just out of curiosity, what was the bad flavor note that you wanted to suppress? I’m not good at naming flavors. Some people enjoy jasmine tea that contains flower petals. I think that’s considered a modern style, and I don’t like it. That’s what I detect here. My favorite jasmine is actually scent...
