Re: What Black Are You Drinking

I'm not even quite sure this is a black tea,.... A lot the "black" tea that I have had from Nepal is actually oolong oxidized so much that many people feel it is misleading to call it oolong. (about 10% more oxidation would get the leaves to be truly black tea). The distinction may not be important...

Re: Oolong and banji-leaf plucking (zhong kai mian)

mbanu, we are taught from the beginning of our tea education that "two leaves and a bud" is the ideal plucking standard. As you saw in the video, however, this is not the case everywhere or for all types of tea. The four leaf pluck is standard for Taiwan oolongs; indeed it is considered not just th...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

Victoria, which brand of Icelandic water are you using? I tried 2 (if I remember correctly) that did not seem to make better tea than the cheaper Poland Spring. Note: The cost of doing anything is an issue for me. In case there are others with very limited means, I write that equal amounts of Poland...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

I tried some Laoshan black tea from Verdant tonight. It's sweet and fruity. I really enjoyed it. I don't recall if I ever had back tea before. I used to think the tea they serve in most Chinese restaurants is back tea, and perhaps it is, but it doesn't taste anything like this black tea. I ordered ...

Re: My first sheng experience

... The most striking thing about this tea was a 'candied apricot glazed salmon with dark sweet soy sauce' flavor, which reminded me of recipe from the Alinea cookbook that I tried a few years ago.. I have had fish cooked like this a couple of times & duck cooked this way several times. Really deli...

convert, and now I'm spoiled rotten. I'll agree that you are a convert, as many of us are; however, why think of it as being spoiled rotten? I think we are blessed to have found pleasure from tea that we did not imagine. Not being able to enjoy the worst tea at all, is a small price to pay for the ...

Re: Places to drink tea in Boston?

Do you have any recommendations? I just moved out here. I never go out for tea. If you are in Boston, I am in Charlestown (across the bridge over the end of the Charles River, where the locks are) near the Boston Garden/North Station. You can visit in my little studio. Give me a call if you like,

I don't know how many of us will get there; however: Jiufen charges a flat rate for the tea, kettle, teaware (or at least that is what I understood what was done). I did not drink there because I was alone & torrential rain made the great view on the ocean less alluring. I think a long Pu-erh seesio...

That's so funny! What is the taste of a white pebble? How different are the pebbles tasting from the Baltic Sea than....?

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Just can’t get over the bug bitten flavour, still hate it. I have never thought of how the bug-bites specifically flavor the tea or should I say how specifically it gives one flavor. I usually think of Oriental Beauty being sweet in a fairly unique way. Some organic black tea has a good bit of that...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Winter 2019 Fushoushan. Fresh and flowery though taste doesn’t quite live up to its price tag. Yeah, FSS is overpriced IMHO. I have tried to come up with a policy to guide me for buying or not buying expensive tea. Some ?s that I consider: Will I miss a tea if I do not have it? When I drink a tea t...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Yes, so true I have several pots in rotation daily .... I don't steep overnight often. However, as Victoria & others relate, it is good to have a few teapots & gaiwans handy. One might be using a few at a time. I often have leaves resting in a gaiwan or teapot from when I chose the wrong tea for th...

Re: Sample tea from Verdant

Wager was for Victoria. I am too poor to lose to all teaforum members :D I should have PMed it. Anyway, I tried to remember all of my history with Verdant Tea. I had forgotten that I did place an order after the $5 samples. It was for Laoshan Black tea. Back then I was new to ordering online. Somewh...

Re: Sample tea from Verdant

Five samples for 5$ is a deal. Sure, it is okay if you enjoy drinking one of them. Great if you enjoy drinking more than one. Fantastic if you find a tea that you will order later. I don't know you beyond this forum but am willing to take a chance: Bet you five dollars you don't order one of those ...
