Re: Yixing

I have been learning more about hongni category, and I came across this pot. Initially, I thought it might be 90s F1 pot as it has a F1 potter's mark. I think it has been painted with a dark tone of material on inside and outside. I am not sure if this is done in 90s F1. What do you think? ;) ./dow...

Re: Yixing advice

Approximately how many times do you use a yixing teapot before it is well seasoned and you would use it with really high end tea? I blindly bought and have been using this teapot for yancha for about a month. I got a zhuni teapot because I had read that they won't absorb too much flavor from the te...

Re: Question: Thoughts on these teapots? Worth purchasing?

So in conclusion: should I buy them? No. Bad clay, unclear if Yixing. My advice is: stick with a porcelain gaiwan and study Yixing clay quality from posts here and books. Look closely at the texture and read what people have to say about different pots. After 6 months-1 year of studying, buy your f...

Re: Yixing

Any knowledge you can share about XiaoMingJia pots? I did some searching last year, and I couldn’t find much info. I have another XiaoMingJia pot from a reputable seller, so this term has been puzzling me  Mostly made in mid-late 80s, they have the artisan name stamped, clay quality and workma...

Please elaborate? It is about how the bottom of the pot is made? Or the type of clay?
Clay, shape, workmanship, carving. Every detail is incorrect for an antique.

On another note what do you guys think of this pot? Seller claims it to be mid 20Th, prefactory maybe?
A very clear modern replica.

It’s pretty safe to assume anything from that period had additives.

Only way to know what’s in it is to get it tested.
+1, post green label it's almost certain that barium was added, and possibly manganese oxide too. That does not necessarily mean that it is harmful to use it.

Re: Yixing

Does it say mengchen mark? Or not? One reason you are having difficulty getting an answer is that seal script is hard. The way characters are written on seals is not the usual writing. To make things worse, there are multiple possible ways to write the same character in seal script. So even native ...

Re: Yixing

Do Yixing collectors normally look at the provenance of a pot? Things like original sales receipts, photographs of the original owner in which the pot happens to be in the background, etc. With many of the pots, I imagine the original owners are still alive, or that they have only had a couple owne...
