Re: My other pots...
Thanks Steanze 🙏 How does the clay and craftsmanship look in general? They are standard for this type of pot. The clay is not nearly as good as the 70s F1 versions, but it might work reasonably well for tea anyway. The craftsmanship seems to be good enough to make tea without making a mess, but the...

Re: My other pots...
Just thought I’d share my other two pots. Both Shui Ping. One in Hongni and the smaller cute one in Zini. Both bought in Taiwan for not very much money. Both seem like good clay and make nice tea. I drink WAY too much Shou and so usually end up using both of these for that and other darker teas lik...

Re: Help! Yixing Identification Needed
Thank you🙏 That seems to be the consensus on here in terms of age and being a reproduction. Can I ask you, in your opinion, what rules it out of being an original piece by Youlan? The craftsmanship? And also, what gives you the feeling it’s that old and not made more recently? A million thank yous!...

Re: Help! Yixing Identification Needed
Hey guys! Hope you are all having a lovely day. I’m in need of some help by way of identifying and authenticating this Yixing pot. I’ve been practicing Gongfu-Cha for 7 or so years, I’ve built up a very small collection of Yixing ware including 4 or so teapots. By no means an expert on the topic bu...

Re: Yixing
I appreciate everyone’s feedback. I will take concerns into consideration. I realize these pots aren’t up to normal standards of pots I’ve purchased, but I went out on a whim given price point. Yixing is definitely more foreign territory for me compared to kyusu. It can happen to everyone to pay so...

Re: Yixing
No, I wouldn't say that. Personally I don't think barium in Yixing teapots is a major health concern. The level of risk one is comfortable with is a personal matter...

Re: Yixing
I got these from a vendor based out of San Fran, possibly the most Lib place on Earth. Difficult to believe they would sell clay of questionable or even dangerous quality. I agree that they would not intentionally sell something harmful, the potential risk is that they might not have fully understo...

Re: Yixing
Who is to really say the clay on other yixing is safe, how do we really know? Before ROC they did not really put additives in Yixing clay (well, in the Ming dynasty they sometimes added quartz powder to reduce shrinkage in the kiln, but that is safe, later they sometimes used pre-fired ground clay ...

Re: Yixing
No worries steanze. I wasn’t expecting much given the price, but they were labeled as Yixing. Couldn’t they still be even if clay altered? Curious what are main giveaways - line up middle, rough seal, or clay itself? They could be, but it is very unlikely. Factory 1 did do experiments with slip cas...

Re: Yixing
steanze Sure thing! I was just waiting for someone to ask. Is slip cast a bad thing? ./download/file.php?id=13693 Yes, sorry... Yixing clay normally can't be slip-cast, unless it is altered in some way. I would not consider these as Yixing teapots. But it's a start! The next ones will be bett...

Re: Yixing
First post in Yixing thread, maybe ever. Thought I’d start off with a set of pots that arrived today. Got for a good price. Curious to hear input anyone may have. ./download/file.php?id=13685 ./download/file.php?id=13686 ./download/file.php?id=13687 ./download/file.php?id=13688 mmm... those lid kno...

Re: Yixing
When I make oolong I tend to prefer small teapots. For liubao and puerh it depends, but I rarely go below 80ml: sometimes I opt for 80-120ml, other times for 180+ml. A large pot of old tea, at lower ratio and with longer steeping time, extracts a kind of depth that is difficult to obtain with smalle...
