Re: Characteristics of good gaoshan?

I was told that spring tea is coming in next week. I'll have a shipment of tea from the same vendor. Bok and others can correct me if I'm wrong... but spring tea being released in the first week of April seems very early for gaoshan. I never want to say never, but typically I would expect picking t...

Re: Leafy Green Tea

Hi everybody! I hope your weeks are off to a good start. Unfortunately, ours is not. Last night, the Leafy Green instagram account mysteriously disappeared! We are trying to work with IG/FB to bring it back, but don't have high hopes. In the meantime, we have created @LeafyGreen.Tea on Instagram . I...

Re: Drinking and buying tea in Taiwan and Kuala Lumpur

If you're going to be in Taichung, definitely reach out to Hua Yin Chen. My wife speaks with him practically daily, so if you have any issues with communication or otherwise, just let me know. As for Wistaria - it is a nice experience, but massively overpriced for the quality of tea in my opinion. G...

Re: Vacuum sealers?

As for what vendors do, I doubt many use inert gas. Florent of Thes du Japon is the only one I know doing this. He vacuum sealed up until recently. Thanks for the info. Still, regarding what vendors do, I rarely see chinese greens that have the air vacuumed out since it would crush the delicate lea...

Re: Question regarding rolled roasted teas

I never had an incorrect order until relatively recently. I ordered something like 150g of medium roast and 50-100g of light roast. The quantities were mixed up and i received 100g of medium roast and 150g of light roast. It's not a huge deal cause i like the light roast a lot, but i would have lik...

For the winter harvest I recommend not to hold back this year! It has been good and yield was very low, buy now or it will be gone soon...
I second this comment.

Where can I buy Chen Huayin teas?
If you're in the US: www.leafygreentea.com (ships from US. Full disclosure - my wife is the founder of Leafy Green).

If you're outside of the US: www.2088taiwan.com (ships from Taiwan).

Re: Yancha issues

I think perhaps some of the confusion has to do with a lack of definition. We are discussing whether or not "top quality teas" are available in the West... but what are "top quality teas"? As an example, I once spoke with a Mao Feng farmer who had various grades of Mao Feng. We asked about his top g...

Re: Question regarding rolled roasted teas

Hi victoria! I should have posted more specifics about my own experience with these teas. I am specifically talking about what is typically medium oxidized and roasted, like an old fashioned dong ding. I usually buy from Floating Leaves. You have a good point when comparing this style to Wuyi and D...

Having some chen unroasted winter harvest and it is very good, I just had the spring recently and I like the winter better this year. There's cream, citrus and spice notes, really enjoying this one.
Yea, the winter harvest is fantastic this year, but with a much smaller yield than normal, sadly.

Re: Brewing time discussed on Medium

Recognising that boiling occurs at different temperatures depending upon altitude, I believe that oolong tea should be brewed with the hottest water available. Even 'greener' oolongs like TGY or a lishan? I definitely feel this way about roasted oolongs, but I typically do the 'greener' ones around...

Re: Brewing time discussed on Medium

Some teas, particularly yancha and other roasted oolongs, are meant to use water that is boiling. In fact, part of the reason why people buy clay teapots is because the tea retains the heat better than porcelain gaiwans, which keeps the water closer to boiling for longer. Additionally, if you are tr...
