A Time for "Bad" Tea?
"Life is too short to drink bad tea," is often quoted. However, I have found a time for "bad" tea. I ease into days by drinking water upon waking and then later making one of my worst teas. I usually can finish a cup enjoyably that is prepared to be light: quick steeping at relatively low temperatur...

Re: Ethan Kurland
Thanks, Victoria. You so kindly have given how I post more thought than I have. Besides usual awkwardness with computer stuff, I am dumbfounded by suddenly getting into a cooperative that usually takes 1 1/2 to 2 years of waiting to move to the top of the list. It only took several months for me. No...

Re: Lets talk about Da Yu Ling
Thanks Ethan! Do you have any particular teas you suggest that have that same Dayuling qi without the pricetag? Brent, I'll identify the 2 I have after I put sample packages together. I don't want to be on here pushing my teas; but, I do want them to be sampled here. Take a couple of weeks. In proc...

Jay, that teapot looks tiny! I think it is about 2 years since I have been happy with a dahongpao. Some problem with that tea, I guess.
Medium-roasted TGY in Taipei were quite disappointing. When I was there heavily-roasted TGY was unavailable. Cheers

Re: Jin Jun Mei?
I do drink a lot of black tea but mostly from Taiwan the last couple of years. Nonetheless, I've tasted jin jun mei a few times in the last year, mostly courtesy of John B. and none were great but all okay. Others may have a lot more to offer than my conclusion so far, which is that I have found no ...

Current list of teas available is last post of page 8. Orders can be sent to merrill23k@yahoo.com or PM me here. Cheers Dear Teaforum members, I only sell tea that I like & drink myself, mostly from Taiwan, but sometimes I offer tea from Nepal & Thailand. I sell tea for more than the leaves cost me...

Re: Oriental Beauty & Difficulty of Categorizing
Thanks, Victoria. I have looked at flavor wheels and probably should do so again. Both of these oriental beauties have been oxidized quite a bit, moving them towards black, and think both have been roasted slightly. I've heard the Lin Mao Sen shop calling some of their o.b.s black tea when they don'...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
High Roller: My English name for a roasted oolong from Winter 2016 season. Leaves were harvested at 2400 meters up Lishan and roasted traditionally--slowly in baskets over charcoal and rotated every 20 minutes or so for 2 - 3 days. Today I steeped in 88C water < 30 seconds to get a light sour taste ...

Oriental Beauty & Difficulty of Categorizing
I am enjoying another Oriental Beauty bought in Taipei. It is sweet and features floral aroma & fruity flavors one associates with o.b.; yet, is not typical with other flavors and a complex feel of black tea.....So good now made with better water and ideal parameters! Pondering the problem of what t...

Re: Lets talk about Da Yu Ling
Brent D, There is what you want, by the name da yu ling, or another name. The quality and qualities that you have experienced can still be drunk. The end of tea production for the highest 200 meters (around 2500 meters high) on a few mountains did not wipe out all the possibilities....Leaves from 24...

from Lochan Tea Ltd. via kindness of John B., Margaret's Hope FTGFOP FF 2017 Darjeeling: Dry Leaves include light & dark brown leaves as well as some bright green leaves. Prepared with spring water at 98C flavors are bold & varied & unfortunately for me, lacking smoothness & picking up some bitterne...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
So nice to come home to Boston and have this forum to enjoy. I am drinking an Oriental Beauty from Lin Mao Sen in Taipei. I used water from the tap which is better than the reverse osmosis water I used sometimes in Thailand. I am getting a broader range of flavors. Waiting for tap water to make its ...
