Re: Yixing
I agree, historical value of a teapot is important to me as well. It is an investment which holds it value, and can even become more valuable over time. I have long admired the Gongju style of teapot, made between the early years of the 17 century, and on into the middle of the 18th century. I also...

Re: Yixing
One thing sure is that it already has historically value. It's a milestone in contemporary designs, and you can see the impact already today. Yes - historical value is important in my decision of whether to get a pot, there are pots I have that might not be very functional or that might not be my f...

Re: Identifying modern Zhu Ni
steanze Thank you for the prompt reply, that's awesome! I do have experience with less expensive Yixing. I am also very careful in my handling and tea preparation process. These one's are a bit pricier than you mentioned, but I have not found any reputable Western Facing Antique Vendors selling Zhu...

Re: Identifying modern Zhu Ni
... then crack it in the first week because you forgot to prewarm it. Do you always preheat from the outside first, then inside, to prevent zhuni from cracking? I always preheat zhuni. I use different methods depending on the temperature of the room. If it's cold, I do something more like what Youz...

Re: Identifying modern Zhu Ni
Yes, the shape is nice, and hongni can also be very good. Sometimes there is a bit too much obsession with zhuni :) I mean, lao zhuni is very good clay, but good quality hongni can also be very nice. steanze Do you have personal experience with Lao Zhuni, or Zhuni from the Late Qing/Early Republic ...

steanze Would you consider this modern pot pass criteria 2, 3, and 4? 😁 https://onlineonly.christies.com/s/contemporary-clay-yixing-pottery-irving-collection/yixing-ginger-root-form-teapot-cover-tall-ginger-23/67036 Edit: link I am not sure if it passes 2 and 3. The work requires very high skill, b...

Re: Yixing
I posed this question on the Facebook Gong Fu Cha group, and I figured I should ask it here too. Has anybody ever done a comparison between old factory 1 pots and good quality modern pots (Yinchen, Global Tea Hut, Chanting Pines, Mud&Leaves)? I hear quite often that older pots are always better tha...

Re: Yixing
Questions: 1.) How much leaf should I use in a yixing teapot? 2.) Should I keep the lid on between steepings? 3.) What is the most minimalist way to care for my teapot? 1.) This depends on the size of the pot and the tea you wanna drink. If it comes to Pu-Erh, I find the best method not to overdose...

Re: Yixing
I don't know if it's appropriate to ask this, because the seller is a member of this forum... :D but is this teapot really from F1 (80's)? I'm not planning on buying this pot, but it would be interesting to know. https://www.ebay.de/itm/223933200131 looks right to me, make sure to check the picture...

Re: Yixing
Maybe it was a Nenni mix? Nenni is quite abundant and was used for common, daily red pottery. Good article about Nenni: [LINK] Nenni 嫩泥 is close to the surface, so easy to mine and readily available. Under the Nenni ore layer is usually the Zhuni ore layer. Nenni comes from the wait for it.... Nenn...
