Re: Req. assistance from tea experts (B/Tea: Darjeeling)!!

Thunderbolt has redeemed itself for me with their Margaret's Hope Premier Moonlight. I've had it twice now and it's excellent. I used 3 g of leaf in 150 ml of water, with slightly shorter steeping times for the second session (2.5/3.5/5/7 minutes) and 175F water. I get a nice white chocolate and va...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

I've had some nice Japanese black teas from a swap with a tea buddy from Thés du Japon. A couple were too tannic for me, but some had nice floral and stonefruit notes and minimal bitterness. TDJ also has great and accurate tasting notes. I have a sample of Kihong Songzhen from Daxue Jiadao that's be...

Re: Req. assistance from tea experts (B/Tea: Darjeeling)!!

I'm drinking a sample of Castleton Vintage Premium FTGFOP1 (CH) First Flush that I got in my last order (150 ml/180F/2.5, 4, 6 minutes). It's very smooth, with some green FF characteristics. It has some honey, nuttiness, and citrus, but I don't get the advertised florals. I'd say this is a good tea...

Re: Your day in tea

I've been celebrating national hot tea day with the last of an average unsmoked lapsang. Fortunately, I bought only 25 g. I have some Margaret's Hope Moonlight from Thunderbolt I need to try ... or I could finally break out those Daxue Jiadao samples. ;) debunix , I always forget about Japanese kyus...

Re: Your favorite Dan Cong vendor?

Kyarazen does not sell tea. Isn't this his shop? https://www.kangiiten.com/collections/tea I see a Ya Shi Xiang tasting set from Zoe. As far as I am aware it is a loose cooperation with that business, not himself. More like a curation. Ah, okay. Thanks for letting me know. I'll probably try to cont...

Re: Your favorite Dan Cong vendor?

I went with the easiest option and ordered more Dancongs from Wuyi Origin during their Black Friday sale. I've had good luck with Cindy's teas in the past and wanted to buy some lapsang from her anyway. I'll email Zoe at some point to see if she takes PayPal, or I might try to buy her teas from Kyar...

Re: Lapsang Souchong

Gaoshan, apart from those you mentioned, I also recommend you try Chawangshop. ;) Talking about silky.. you would probably like it. Only thing it’s a double - smoked/unsmoked tea Thank you! I've never heard of this vendor having good lapsang, but I might check it out. Any other non-puerh tea I shou...

Re: Lapsang Souchong

Years back I had some lapsang souchong from Wuyi Origin that was the best I ever had. I don't remember all the reasons why I have not had any LS in my cupboard since then. I guess it is one of the teas that I only drink outside. Unfortunately, most homes that have LS in them, have poor quality LS. ...

Re: Lapsang Souchong

Today I had what I'd describe as an okay unsmoked lapsang. It had some grilled peach, orange, and sweet potato, and lots of honey, earth, moss, and minerals. There was none of that silky mouthfeel I associate with some really nice lapsangs, and it was astringent from the beginning of the session. If...

Re: Lapsang Souchong

Samples of tea are easily upsetting. There are days & even weeks when we are off our normal perception. Things we usually love may taste ordinary; or, we do not notice something such as our water filter is no longer working until we already decided we were glad we only bought a sample & not a regul...

Re: How Much Tea Do You Consume Per Day?

I'm surprised I never answered this question. I usually gongfu steep about 6 g of oolong or hongcha per day. Some days I'll do another 6 g session or Western steep about 4 g of tea, or I might start a session and then finish it the next day. I'd say I drink 6-12 g of tea per day, trending toward the...

Re: Your day in tea

What are you guys drinking during the holidays? Happy holidays! My "gift to myself" was a bit of 1998 Liu Bao, and some Qi Dan Yencha from my local teashop. This is the first Liu Bao I've tried! I love how it has familiar Shou Puher flavors, but it's different in a way I can't yet place. I am excit...
