Anybody ever purchase a teapot that started out bad?
I have a pot from CWS - a late 90s Zini - that makes tea come out tasting slightly acidic and tart. I know of somebody else who has experienced a similar phenomenon with the same pot (but larger size) and yet another person who has had no issues. Is it possible for a pot to start out like this, but ...

Re: Aging puerh: what is your setup?
Reading around a lot of stuff on Chinese forums (such as in the link below) I've personally set up a slower going low key environment. I live in the high sierras, but am not overly worried about making a perfect higher humidity dry storage situation for my teas. I am preferring an approach of cautio...

Re: Buying Oolong in Tainan
By Dr. Chen....do you mean Huayin Chen? (陳華胤) If so, you could just head on down to Nantou and visit him. If you're stuck in Taipei, you can just roll around different tea shops and try teas until you like one. Ask around for Lishan Gao Shans and see what you can find. Heck, you could even roll dow...

Re: Oolongs vendor topic
While I too love Chen's teas, I must say that Floating Leaves Tea sources a mean Dong Ding. I haven't tried FLT's Greener Oolongs outside of tasting, so I can't speak to them, but I think FLT DD deserves a shout out here~

Re: gaiwan or teapot?
One big problem I have with the gaiwan is that heat escapes quiker due to the larger opening, not so practical for my high mountain oolongs. I can imagine it being an advantage for more delicate greens, but i do not drink those… The gai part of gaiwan means lid. Use it to your advantage...should fi...

Re: Shou Pu'er: How do I reliably find the flavors I prefer?
A lot of Dayi cakes will fit the profile. The older BoYou's such as a 0508 or a 0509 will probably hit the spot too. I would sample a lot till you find the ones. After that you can amass the collection. Thank you for the recommendations! I will definitely have to do lots more drinking before I comp...

Shou Pu'er: How do I reliably find the flavors I prefer?
I cracked into a Crimson Lotus sampler pack, experiencing widely different flavors in the 4 I have tried so far. Iron Forge and the Mini-mushroom seemed more earthy and extremely thick (although they absolutely need more time to rest as I impatiently began drinking all of these early) while Stormbre...

Re: Science behind letting puerh "rest" after shipment?
I wonder how this changes samples compared to whole cakes. Has anybody seen a difference between the two? Would the wait period then be different based on size of pieces? Perhaps loose leaf is different as well. It seems that there won't be much science brought to this topic, but I will be lurking t...

Re: Humidity Control: DIY Salt Packs
Wonderful post with great information. I currently use 100% NaCl, and have relatively little experience. Using a cooler, some salt in a bowl, and preparing a pumidor in this fashion. Thus far I have not used it for tea, but am setting it up. If I keep a simple salt solution, I assume this works well...

Re: Introduce Yourself
Hello all, you can call me Nug. Sean works, too. I've been drinking tea for a while, don't have quantifiable time. I have more recently been ordering/drinking more tea and branching out, having a good time. I drink Taiwanese Oolongs primarily. I am quite interested and beginning to explore pu'ers no...

Re: Romanization of 熟 / shu / shou
I'm going to keep this really short. Somebody's going to come along and pull an "Actually, it's *this* way" on me. Both ways are acceptable. Generally speaking "shou" is common in colloquial speech, and "shu" is common in narration of text. This may vary from place to place. Some people like to say ...
