Re: The (Western) Yixing market

What pots were you unsure about? Note that not all of their pots are f1. They also sell a number of inexpensive pots from f2. Not too sure, was months ago, just a couple f1s and f2s with some sloppy base stamps, my f2 is has a bad stamp but not as bad. This was a completely uneducated hunch though,...

Re: The (Western) Yixing market

Is that zishaartgallery site considered legit?
I remember browsing it a few months ago and seeing a couple pots I wasnt sure about so I sorta disregarded it.
Good to hear then :)

Re: The (Western) Yixing market

I was under the opposite impression, that Westerners tend to use larger pots on average. Mhhh maybe we should do a poll! Was under the opposite one, for 'gong fu' people tend to go for really tiny pots with a lot of leaf and flash steeps(I myself did that for a while) instead of a more relaxed apro...

Re: The (Western) Yixing market

One thing that affects the attractiveness of the pots that have been popping up in the western market to me is the fact that a lot of the times they are very small sizes, I am aware that small pots are very popular in the west, but I know a few puer drinkers that prefer bigger sizes 120-200ml. More ...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

My speculation is that relatively high calcium bicarbonate Ca(HCO3)2 is actually a good thing, it will precipitates into scale through boiling anyways, but that it is some other forms of soluble Calcium (such as CaCl2, CaSO4,...) that make hard water dulling the taste. My other speculation is that ...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

Interesting thread, I tried a bunch of the water available here, spring water in Portugal is very low tds for the most part, most mountains aren't limestone based, one I use is Serra da Estrela brand 39tds, 2.7mg/L calcium, not wildly different from the rest of the options but has been my favourite....

Re: Factory or Faketory?

Clay and craftsmanship look suspect. Details are poorly done and don’t look right. Thank you for your input, guess I'll save my money then, was a bit confused due to the large variation between the 2 in the tc post, the clay does in fact look off but I thought it could be perhaps the photo, my own ...

Re: Factory or Faketory?

Was considering a yixing that popped up on classifieds here in portugal, after seeing a thread on teachat with 2 versions of that type of pot I was both convinced it was fake and real  Can someone tell me if its an obvious fake? Though I understand if you dont want to, one thing is appraising a...

Re: The place where water turns tea purple...

Having drank that water I'd assume it isnt the best for tea, and what they say about it being able to oversteep without being bitter sounds similar to the muting you get with hard water. As for the purple effect, of which I didnt know until now, id wager it is about the sulfur, the area where the wa...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I also enjoyed O-Cha’s Nagasaki Organic Guricha, his other kamairi (pan fried, not steamed) shincha. One thing I noticed with this shincha is it prefers to be steeped with less leaf, and less time, 6.6gr/230ml/170f/90, 30, 60sec in Emu 230ml shudei. It has a subtle umami, seaside, nutty sweetness, ...

Been having o-cha's Kamairi Tamaryokucha, being pan fried makes it a good change of pace from the usual sencha.
