Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

No Biluxi blues listed though ... guess she’s calling it DYL. Yes, I think so too. It would probably also be more confusing for a lot of people to use unknown names instead of the household teas. That is quite common in Taiwan, you won’t find a lot of specific tea names and their origin, cultivar e...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Bok, this sounds really really good, just how many of us like our buttery rich oolongs. Maybe a great group buy idea? When you meantioned Biluxi, it reminded me of a time visiting artist along the Mississippi coast in Biloxi. Possibly the translation is a little quirky, or there is also a town of B...

Re: Oriental Beauty & Difficulty of Categorizing

I have read (and will link to sources later, if I can find them again) that many/most darjeelings do not fit in the regular black/green-categories, and if going by degree of oxidisation would be categorized as oolongs. I have always felt that Darjeeling-like teas should have their own category, the...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Biluxi high mountain oolong. Does not sound familiar? Had not heard it before either. Got the tea from with two other nameless samples (#1-3) from a customer and he told me the following after I made my choice and wanted to have some details of what it was: As almost all farms on Dayuling are closed...

Re: Yixing Production Mold Slab Process

Cool to see this big artisanal pot made by hand without a mold, as compared to factory production pots. Thanks. Although it looks big at that time, the finished pot will be a lot smaller! Shrinkage in normal clay is already substantial, yixing clays even more… I can tell from my own pottery experie...

Re: Yixing Production Mold Slab Process

Wishing I could remember now how I got to an amazing youtube video of a famous chinese potter making a slab pot....I had in mind a much cruder process and result than was actually the case in that situation as well. This one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKqwuS-UHkk https://www.youtube...

Re: Oriental Beauty & Difficulty of Categorizing

I was just about to open a new topic when stumbling upon this and thought my question might fit right in: I noticed that Oriental beauty seems to have quite a bit in common with Darjeeling teas. In this I would also include the Nepali varieties. Anyone else observe the same? Ethan, you have some mor...

Re: Downsides of using a very fine filter

I second the above, not really good or bad or anything to worry about too much… To me this happens when I reach the bottom of the pack, in those cases I brew more attentively to not overbrew, as the small stuff extracts quicker than a full leaf. Basically like a tea bag. Never really understood thos...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Thanks Bok, Ferg thinks it might be 2013 Summer, Hualien Mi Xiang (Bug-bitten) Red Tea from Origin Tea. If you know of anything similar let me know, this was rich spicy sweet and complex through many steeps. Yes, that makes more sense! Hualien is on the Eastcoast of Taiwan, usually not a traditiona...

Re: Puerh Brooklyn: Nov 11th Exhibition & 14th Artist Talk with Petr Novak and Miroslava Randova

And: I have seen some very fine work from the other potters mentioned, and I'm still looking forward to finding a first piece to purchase from one of the others. So far, though, the pieces of theirs I like best from darjeeling.cz from each of them seem to be equally popular with others, and are sna...

Re: Puerh Brooklyn: Nov 11th Exhibition & 14th Artist Talk with Petr Novak and Miroslava Randova

The artisanal ware of these Czech and Polish potters really stands apart creating a distinct style. Mmmm curious, did you mistakingly omit mentioning Miroslava Randova, a common gender oversight, or possibly you are not aware of her work yet? Her tea boats and kettles are very special and unique, s...

Re: Puerh Brooklyn: Nov 11th Exhibition & 14th Artist Talk with Petr Novak and Miroslava Randova

Wow, I've heard his name mentioned before, but had never seen such nice Japan-style teaware made by a Westerner. Japanese/Taiwanese. He also got quite some inspiration from Taiwan as well. He came at least once and had an exhibition in Qiushan Tang, a taditional teahouse spin-off from Chunshui Tang...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Farmers who know that an ideal time to harvest has arrived, are not able to harvest all of the tea on a plot of land that day, correct? If there are a limited amount of the most ideal hours to harvest, how much of their tea leaves can be harvested then? Or, to be brief: What percentage of a tea can...
