Re: Special Offer: Ippodo Tokusen Gyokuro 2020

i've learned that it's available for preorder from their US store at https://ippodotea.com/collections/gyokuro/products/premium-select-gyokuro?currency=USD. interesting. i've never seen them offer it for sale on a web store before. Haha, that’s a first. I think TF enthusiasm must have inspired Ippo...

Re: Help identifying Japanese Teapot

Hi all. I just purchased this teapot at a japanese thrift shop in Phnom Penh. I suspected it might be a high quality clay so I bought it for only $5.50. It is quite elegant and has a lot of delicate hand work, especially in the strainer. It has a hallmark, and one crack on the handle. The part wher...

Re: Yancha lovers?

I've got some samples from farmer. The prices are quite high , some very high....yet not that high for Chinese market. My question is , if foreigners wiling to spend such a money for tea ( I guess that's never ending "?" for every vendor sourcing tea from China ;-) So , I was wondering : 1) what is...

Re: Buying Pu'erh for the long haul

The type of tea that someone buys from the internet, without seeing, smelling, tasting before buying. There are no real life tea shops within 1.5 hours of my home. Curious, who have you been buying your Puerh from mostly? Developing a relationship with a few vendors, that are in alignment with your...

Re: Black Tea Vendor Topic

I hope this is the right place to post this. This is in response to a PM by polezaivsani as I can't seem to reply to PMs just yet. I mentioned I like keemun and though I don't have a massive experience of it, I've tried several vendors for both normal and Maofeng versions. The far best I've tried a...

Re: Light colored unglazed clay staining

Interesting, I just saw the Shukei piece you referenced in your OP on Artistic Nippon. It seems he is suggesting to use as a teapot and priced accordingly. Before buying I’d ask if when wet it has smell of clay, it could take a while to cure before use. Personally I wouldn’t want to use for tea only...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

My friend is swearing on letting Gyokuru age at least a year and not to consume it fresh. Kind of confirms the above experiences. I have some 2019 Gyokuro I'll be opening soon and will comment here afterwards. I've heard this as well so I'm hoping everyone is on point! Honestly, I think it depends ...

Re: Troubleshooting: Site Issues & Bug Reports

I'm noticing that post-reply windows now automatically seem to have 'notify me when a reply is posted' checked automatically. I do not like having another set of e-mails to delete--the little bell upper right when I login is all the notice I need as I check the forum often. Is there a setting in my...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Continuing with Sinensis Yukkaichi gyokuro, after a tasty Sae Midori Kagoshima Seicha session. I do think it has improved after a year of refrigeration. It is richer, deeper and super silky smooth. Using more leaf also works really well. 10g/100ml/108f/2.30min in Shigaraki 140ml Tachi Masaki, using ...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

I've been drinking different yancha samples for a little while now, and had a really good one last night. https://txs-tea.com/collections/oolong/products/first-prize-of-2019-shui-xian-tea 8g/140ml/water off the boil 10/8/10/10/etc One of the best, if not the best yancha I've had. Full rich taste wi...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

This one is different enough that it seems like it should get its own name as fermented tea, as a sparkling wine with little in common in flavor or origin with Champagne. But what would be a good generic term for fermented tea? There are several fermented Japanese niche teas like these below. Maybe...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

On this cool summer day I’m enjoying the warmth of this very special ‘87 Taiwan Tie Guanyin. Perfectly roasted and stored. The aroma coming off wet leaf is so expansive, spicy and complex. The liquor picks up nicely from there, with deep, rich complex spicy notes. Mouth feel is thick and lingering. ...

Thanks for sharing @EarthMonkey, some very good insight. I thought you’ve been storing Puerh since late ‘90s early ‘00 since you have such a large collection?

Re: Determining the right size kyusu pot

Thank you Victoria I had the same thought on temperature for Sencha not mattering as much. That's good to hear your experience. Hmm I don't own a yuzamashi but would like one. I was searching for Kyusu's and found some I liked though larger than what I had originally wanted...now I see this plan fo...
