Re: beginner boiling pot- clay or tetsubin? glass?
Get a glass kettle or large fairness pitcher. I often boil spent tea in a 250ml glass pitcher or 500ml metal dim sum pot with water from cleaning my yixing.

Re: The (Western) Yixing market
Flea markets, vintage shops, thrift stores and estate sales in Wisconsin dont have yixing :) If something ever falls in my lap, I would certainly be open to it, but it wont, and im done hunting for it. One never knows. Last year i found in a pile of trash and bought in a flea market here in Germany...

@Teachronicles
$1000 is reasonable if it’s a pot you’d likely never come accross again. Thankfully this doesn’t seem like the case.

Re: The (Western) Yixing market
Emmett is a good source for older pots, he sometimes has imperfect pots that are discounted that still function fully and make good tea. I got a 60s hongni with a firing spot for 400$ recently from him. Also, HYchen at 2088taiwan has recently reduced his prices for the 60 and 70s pots, while still ...

Re: The (Western) Yixing market
Brent D 1300 for a authentic, pure Zhuni clay from Qing era is frankly not much. You pay more or slightly less for a modern (real and pure) Zhuni. Totally agree. Not likely to come across legit zhuni for a more palatable price. At least he knows pots like that are available should he decide to vent...

Re: The (Western) Yixing market
Is that zishaartgallery site considered legit? I remember browsing it a few months ago and seeing a couple pots I wasnt sure about so I sorta disregarded it. Good to hear then :) Yes. I asked a few collectors in SEA before buying anything. What pots were you unsure about? Note that not all of their...

Re: The (Western) Yixing market
Brent D Hmm I’ve contacted them a few times w/o any prob. Maybe check your spam folder if you haven’t done that already. I’d contact them again if your serious about buying authentic zhuni. This one is currently available still. http://zishaartgallery.com/product/老壶-3/ Sigh...now look what youve go...

Re: The (Western) Yixing market
Sigh...now look what youve gone and done... Email sent. Id imagine they want over $1000 though. Lets see if they respond. That is Qing Dynasty! $4000 Easy. I would not bother with the ones they do not display the price. It means if you do not know how much this is worth, don't bother! :mr...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Decided to try out a new F1 flat duanni pot with a canned 80’s Wo Hop oolong. This tea isn’t anything special but it’s surprisingly decent with this pot. It smooths out the rough edges and enhances the aged roasted grain flavor.

Re: The (Western) Yixing market
I have completely stepped away from buying vintage yixing. The prices have gotten out of control here in the USA. Very few are willing to spend over $1000 USD on a tea pot. I once bought a late 60s hongni for $275. I feel thats reasonable. I dont think I could find that today. I used to spend hours...

Re: The (Western) Yixing market
I’m definitely one of those collectors that struggles to accept the high prices for ROC and 60-70’s pots. Id love to focus my collecting on these periods eventually. Currently my selection of F1 consist of 60-70’s 24% Green 56% 80-90’s 20% I think green label era pots are good enough for tea drinkin...
