Re: Yixing

Odd timing that this Indonesian pot popped up for sale while this seal is being discussed. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F124037042606 Indeed. Somehow I find these pots charming in a way. Very clear from the pictures of this one that they are either...

Re: Yixing

The seller told me that the teapot would be from the 19th century, but this is probably bs. I am happy with this purchase, because these small sizes are very hard to find in Europe and the clay seems fine. Not probably, for sure this is not 19th century. I’d be worried what else is wrong with this ...

Re: Yixing

Youzi Thanks for the link, I’ll read up on it. As far as misinformation in the west goes, it’s still a lingering problem though it’s improved quite a bit since 2008-09 when I first go into tea. Occasionally I go back and read some of the old teachat post from this period just to see how far we’ve c...

Re: Yixing

@Youzi

Not to rehash the FB thread but would this acid washing be one factor that’s changed since 2010?

What negative effects does this process have on teapots or health? Dr. Lu has mentioned this along with BC but I haven’t come across much in-depth discussions about how it effects either.

Re: Staple repair tutorials?

I believe this is the go to book for staple repairs. Far cheaper than the $80-ish I saw it listed for before so it might be a different book.

Re: Staple repair tutorials?

I thought about doing this awhile back. Couldn’t find any useful videos. The books that exist for staple repairs are obviously out of print and very hard to get these days. You don’t buy those metal staples btw. Silver/brass wire it cut +hammered into proper shape w/ a forming tool. Nisan does reall...

Re: Yixing

@DailyTX

A flatter more pancake pot like this doesn’t appear in the F1 and F2 catalogs I’ve seen. Another random 90’s factory might be more likely.

Re: Yixing

@DailyTX

Doesn’t look right to me. The way the lid curves up seem more of an F2 thing.

I could be wrong but I believe this is correct shape for this pot.

Re: Yixing

lopin Good to hear this pot didn’t set you back too much. Not a total waste as long as you learn something from these two replicas. If your planing to buy pots online you should spend some time doing side by side photo comparison of real vs. fake. Doing this has helped me avoid ending up with lots ...

Re: Yixing

@lopin

This new 60’s pot looks similar to a number of fake pots I’ve seen listed by Japanese vendors on yahoo JP and eBay.

Also it could just be the way you photographed these but it looks like lid skirt on both those pots are very round which seems less common for the era.

Re: Yixing

I do not have enough money to buy them all, and I like the green label pots better because of the designs. :lol: Furthermore, I do not like pots with chips or a broken spout if it is not repaired. Last week I had the opportunity to buy a late Qing to early republic pot for $65, but it had a broken ...

Re: Yixing

Chadrinkincat I meant the particular style of fittings and the elongated shape of the spout. The basic shape is of course very common since the Qing dynasty. Ah I was gonna say that’s odd you aren’t familiar with it. Yes, this style of repairs seems distinct to the area Asia. Reminds me somewhat of...

Re: Yixing

More pots from Indonesia for teh poci How interesting! Looks like a locally made style to me now, after seeing all these pictures. Come to think of it, I have never come across this style in Yixing before. It’s basically like like CZ shape like this. https://www.instagram.com/p/BnwBtDFn-BG/?igshid=...
