Re: 2019 from Wuyi Origin?

A good way to taste and test the essence of any Yancha, is to keep the first rinse aside and drink it in the end. Like cupping a tea, this will show all the shortcomings of the tea. If it is a good tea it will be the best cup of the session! Good thing it comes last ;) good practice 👍 about shortco...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

I see Old Ways Tea has several RouGui selections. Have you tried any other of their RouGui selections? Don’t know company, ordered much from them? I’ve been wondering what time of year it is harvested and how long it is aged before selling. Several reputable RouGui vendors have very short supplies ...

Re: Different ways to brew WuYi YanCha... what’s your favourite?

I never measure anything, but it seems you might not use enough leaf. Usually with Yancha and Dancong I stuff a 60-90ml pot completely with leaves. Maybe Yancha a tiny tad less as the leaves are smaller and closer together unlike Dancong. I think you’re right. Will give that a try. What is a reason...

what looked like an oil slick on the surface of the liquor. It was not very impressed by it either. Any idea what causes foam and an oil slick?
could it be mineral residue from brewing with hard water?

Re: Yancha issues

what teas accessible to the west are above average quality? Easy for folks to say what’s not good in the west yes, sounds like common but superficial remarks. I can only imagine anyone saying that has either 1) never lived in PRC or other and therefore has no idea what "average quality" is for some...

Re: Yancha issues

there are many common misconception in the world of yancha by some who maybe never went to wuyishan and probably never made tea. a very big misconception is confusing between roasting and oxidation, oxidation being arguably the first and most important step of yancha making but can rarely see some t...

Re: Musings on Dancong…

yeah is fun in a way but after a few times is a bit time investment and although there is ok tea for sure is pretty hard to find something a bit special. I guess all tea markets in china are the same on different scale even if shanghai ones are kind of small. dusty "Bingdao" "xihu longjing" "dahong...
