Drinking tea at night

How many people here drink tea in the evening sometimes, at the expense of a few hours of sleep? ;) I know that after 3pm my tea consumption should be stopped, otherwise I won't go to sleep around 10:30pm. But lately, I find myself coming home from work at 6:30 and firing up the kettle for some shen...

Re: Sencha: what water temp do you use for the second cup?

I am definitely in the cooler camp. Too hot (or too long) and successive steeps lose balance becoming too bitter and/or astringent which just ruins further steeps. I am shooting for 5ish steeps, and too hot on any steep cuts the session short for me. I used to steadily increase temps for successive...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Now about 2 years deep into my tea journey, I've decided that I no longer really enjoy shou. I'm sticking to well-kept non-bitter sheng and other teas that are lighter on the spectrum like gaoshan, white tea, and green teas. I wonder if I'll crave shou this upcoming winter or if these greener teas w...

Re: What is this in my tea

My understanding is that the beige pollen are the tea hairs from the tea leaf. I think they’re often thought of as beneficial to drink (imparts more flavor, some mouth feel). You will find more of them on some of the fuzzy black teas, silver needle, sheng, greens. If there aren’t broken bits in the ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

I'm having 2014 He Kai Shan Raw Puerh, sold by my friend MyTeaGuy.

This tea is bitter in a good way. It's my favorite tea that he sells. His Ban Zhang is pretty good too though I like this tea more.

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

2018 Da Xue Shan from Hojo. Dry leaf smell: Very wonderful, aromatic, sharp tangerine, esp after being in my pumidor (I now have a second one, one for shou one for sheng) Tastes like lightly bitter citrus-tangerine, with a long lingering aftertaste. I don't remember very well how the 2017 one taste...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Having 2018 Shu Hon Long Jing from Hojo.

I'm giving it a 3.5/5 since I've had better Longjing, but it wasn't expensive either.

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I just finished drinking Sumire sencha from kettl co. It's so good, I liked it a lot. I think I liked it just as much if not more than Aoi from Tsuen. I realized that I can't drink sencha hot anymore really, I believe that since the leaves are not whole but chopped up, they irritate my stomach too ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

I’ve had my pumidor for a month now so my teas have had some time to recover, still a good amount to go most likely but I can’t wait any longer. This week I had 2 Hai Lang Hao shous. The first was 2017 Hai Lang Hao "Yi Shan Mo" Yiwu material and I liked it a lot. I bought a 75g sample and I am glad ...

That’s still a good deal warmer than my storage so I am going to continue my current parameters of 75F and 80%. http://teaintheancientworld.blogspot.com/2017/11/puer-storage-optimums-and-relative.html?m=1 “In a Tea Addict’s Journal article (written by an author regarded as one authority on this topi...

Re: What is a Shiboridashi, Hohin, Gaiwan?

The flatter body of the shiboridashi allows for tea to cool faster and the vessel to not heat up as much, so I think it's good for gyokuro.

Re: 2018 Shincha Ordering Topic

I recently read an article from a new vendor that said that shincha is picked early and so the leaves have no time to develop a high caffeine content or astringency.

???
Shincha has always gotten me very caffeine buzzed and awake.
