Re: Is the crack in this Yixing teapot acceptable?

Is the crack in this Yixing teapot acceptable? Hi, I just wanted some opinions from someone else. I ordered a Yixing teapot through RealZisha. It was about $600. It arrived with a crack that looks like it happened during firing. It goes all the way through the body. If I pour in some lukewarm water...

Re: Yixing

I've been complaining recently about what I see as a subpar craftsmanship on a modern zhuni pot, that has a craquelure inside on the bottom. I'd love to hear your opinion about it. Youzi, does yours look the same? ./download/file.php?id=12275 Can you take pictures from more angles? Due to shadows i...

Re: Passing along modern tuition pots

Do you have picture of the crack? Here's the best close up I have right now, a bunch of tiny cracks. ./download/file.php?id=12268 I remember you have a twin sibling of this pot. Hope you fare with yours better than I did with mine! Yes, I have mine looks similar too. And those are not cracks, just ...

Re: Help with Dads random Hoard. Good bad? Real Fake?

If you don't know how to price them, then just price all between 100-200$ and see if anyone would buy it. Unless they are slipcast I may not price them under 100$. Eventhough they might not worth what you ask for it.

You can also put up ebay actions and see how the bids would go.

Re: Yixing

I just got this ROC pot which came as a set. Elegant lines and beautiful clay. It looks to be around 70ml so probably ideal for higher end yancha. ./download/file.php?id=11685&sid=d7daa129fa93a05c55541932ea801ead ./download/file.php?id=11684&sid=d7daa129fa93a05c55541932ea801ead That looks as good a...

Re: Yixing / Clay pot purchase advice within EU

Maybe you can check out Boerna. Aliexpress no charges VAT, so the shipments should be fast tracked though customs, cuz they have ISS or what number. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKOPCUw While i know some ( few ) sellers on Aliexpress are reliable, also aware there's tons of 'em selling the dodgy kind....

Re: Yixing / Clay pot purchase advice within EU

Maerskian Yeah, you see the problem is that you want to try clay, because you want to see what it does, however at that price point shipped from Europe you don't have retail options, just second hand. Maybe you can check out Boerna. Aliexpress no charges VAT, so the shipments should be fast tracked...

Re: Yixing / Clay pot purchase advice within EU

+1 for the tea swap or try checking out the Marketplace on the /tea discord server. Those pots you linked are probably mass produced machine made teapots. The only thing they have to do with yixing is the name and probably the factory is located in that area. If you want a teapot for it's functional...

Re: Yixing / Clay pot purchase advice within EU

Nixing or Jianshui. Ordered form china, you'll only have to pay VAT legally under 100$. VAT these days is applied to anything & everything, no matter how small the amount. Moreover: customs over have have the obnoxious tendency to circumvent the law: they charge you first based on whatever their cr...

Re: Yixing

Letting you pot get dirty has no positive effects, neither does letting it scaled up. Btw, it's called tea scum in some circles or tea stain, a mix of leftover oils and calcium, if you want to look up some studies about it. Also the shine on the outside should develop naturally, not from getting tea...

Re: Yixing

Please link something that speaks to Yixing being vitrified. Edit: Vitrification is the clay pretty much becoming glass. Yixing does not do this. Or am I completely off base? Both of you are right. Yixing doesn't get vitrified. It gets sintered though. Which makes it impervious to water. In a high ...

Re: Yixing

I'm pretty sure that Yixing does not vitrify which is the whole point since that's what allows the clay to have an effect on the water. Vitrification makes clay bodies impervious to water which is not the case with Yixing; Yixing is porous. This is demonstrably false. Please link something that spe...

Re: Yixing

In cheap locomotive pots they use toilet paper to fake shrink lines. And I also heard that they make the shrink lines more apparent by purposefully fluctuating the temperature at the end of the firing stage of pots. Wow! In case it wasn't apparent. The toilet paper and the special firing are two di...
