Re: Humidity Control: DIY Salt Packs

gatmcm, Someone from Hong Kong might say that the high 80s are fine for puer, but Hong Kong storage is not for everybody. But here's something interesting - I just found half of an old bing someone gave me a couple of years ago. It was a decent daily drinker but I was already tired of it because we'...

Re: Humidity Control: DIY Salt Packs

As an aside, I've also realized that I am absolutely unable to tell how humid my room is. I'm incredibly bad at it and usually guess wrong, so having at least a couple of hygrometers is a necessity for me. Edit: But when I can smell my tea, I know the humidity is in the 65% to the low 70s range. And...

Re: Humidity Control: DIY Salt Packs

I had a few shu cakes destroyed by mold when I was starting out. And then in the dry season it can be sub 50% for a few months and even into the 30s. So I bought a bunch of hygrometers and figured out the best place in the house, and have closed all ziploc bags during the rainy months, and added hum...

Re: Humidity Control: DIY Salt Packs

It's been 24 hours and so I checked it. My room humidity is 87% but inside the box it's 74%.
The plastic box I'm using is not quite airtight, so maybe that's why it's a bit high, but
that's a good start.
I need two more boxes so I'll get boxes that have tighter lids.

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Today I drank one of my favorites. It's from Lau Yu Fat Tea Shop at Lok Fu Plaza in Hong Kong. It's their 50th anniversary (1961 - 2011) puer, so it's eight years old now. Bada and Bulang material and it has the taste and power to prove it. The day before yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to find...

Re: Humidity Control: DIY Salt Packs

OK, I've started my first box with a half pint mason jar with the mixture just as you recommended, except I had to lower the quantities by a third because I only had 12 grams of sugar. The humidity dipped to 59 today and now at 10pm is back up to 71. We were having a drought until a week ago, so whe...

Re: Humidity Control: DIY Salt Packs

Hi all, It's the rainy season here in Chiang Mai, Thailand so my RH% is always above 80. Considering that, can I just put salt in the mason jar with no water? And is pink salt OK? I use a mortar and pestle to crush my pink salt into finer bits and when I leave salt in the mortar during the dry seaso...

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hello Hello,
I've been drinking tea (mostly puer) for about 6 or 7 years now.
I also love Japanese green tea. I found this forum thanks to a post about
a DIY method for humidity control using salt. I'm going to try that starting today.
