Re: Your day in matcha
I finally got a proper chawan, and it is so much easier to whisk properly! I had to be very careful to not splash it everywhere with the previous bowl and couldn't make a thick froth. https://i.imgur.com/RplPxpB.jpg https://i.imgur.com/pFfZJRd.jpg The chawan is from 'The Japanese Shop' who sell on U...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
A little more gyokuro testing today: I went up to 5g/100ml, stayed at 70C and 1.5min. That's heading towards too strong again but was drinkable at the hotter temp.

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
I do understand why warming the cup would be a good idea - what I'm after here is a way of brewing the tea I have in a way I like. If it turns out that warming cups is necessary, then honestly this tea will just sit untouched for another couple of years, because I won't get around to it. Today I tho...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
No preheating - I'd rather just brew hotter, tbh.

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Ok, 4g in the 100ml shibo. 60C, 2 mins. That was a bit better, not so overdone (though I think there being less of it to drink was also a factor!). Also not so surprising since I knew what to expect... I do think that I just don't like drinking the lower temperature liquid though - the lukewarmness ...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
I do have a 100ml glazed shibo by Jiri Lang I could try instead - it doesn't work for fukamushi sencha as it has grooves that just clog instantly. (I do use less water for sencha, especially if it is only me drinking, but I also brew hot and short for that). The 160ml fill was a few mm below the rim...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
How much leaf to water are you using VoirenTea? Too much leaf can sometimes lead to overly concentrated liquor that overwhelms the elegance of certain quality Gyokuro. I had this happen to me recently with O-Cha’s Tsuen Uji Gyokuro Yume no Ukihashi . I started off using 6.4g/80ml/135f/2min in a pre...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Trying a gyokuro again which I brought back from Japan a couple of years ago. It has been stored with its packaging open but folded over inside a glass jar, so won't be the absolute freshest, but seems to have plenty of flavour left. I did the 60C, 2 min initial steep and found it somewhat overwhelm...

Re: British taste in, and knowledge of, tea
@bentz98125 : you do have assumptions/stereotypes/differences between blue-collar and white-collar workers though, right? I don't really know about coffee - I would assume that Starbucks and similar were more of a middle class thing while cafes/takeaways that just sell tea and coffee would be either...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
White2Tea Often Has a smoky edge but not unpleasantly so - is heading in the menthol direction. Was nicer this time than I remember from the first time I tried it. 2006 Liming Early Spring tuo from Tealife.HK, Guangdong dry storage Has a kind of tobacco taste. Not sweet, slightly nutty, smooth. (Is ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
2006 Fuhai 7536 This is from the Singapore group buy that Rasseru did on Steepster a few years ago. The wet leaves smell almost-camphor, the brew is quite orange, and it is smooth and easy drinking. You can get sweetness at the end of some sips, but it comes and goes - that was always the case for t...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
2007 Dayi Gong Ting Qing Bing from King Tea Mall Eh, not sure. It has an old smoke/acrid/leftover astringent edge that easily overwhelms everything else. If you deliberately brew lighter you get something sweeter with a late huigan and lasting cooling mouthfeel, but it didn't really stand out. (The ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
Danggui 2009 Yiwu Gushu from Yiwu Mountain Tea. The wet leaves are warm-smelling (which was the best description I could think of!) It was nice to drink, has a long cooling feel and seems to have a tiny bit of the coppery tip of tongue taste I've had from newer YMT teas. I was still tidying the livi...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
2007 Dayi Silver Peacock from King Tea Mall. This one has some leftover smoke/acrid edge left. Huigan. The cooling and aftertaste build up - they are not as immediately evident as some of the other teas I've had recently. I liked this a lot better in later steeps when the edge had faded and I could ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
2005 Wild Xiaguan from Liquid Proust. Ok, that's different! Needs longer steeps to get going. It tastes like liu an! That musty, nutty taste, plus kind of a citrus peel aroma on top of that and quite a strong sweetness at the end. The leaves have a lot of aroma. Other sellers are saying "wild campho...
