Re: Yixing
I have been looking into yixing ware with wax added. It seems like a common practice in the earlier factory 1 period. Anyone know if wax was ever added for export prior to F1?

@MatthewKH
Your blue teapot is most likely produced in the last 25 years. It doesn’t seem to be a factory pot. As for material, my guess is clay + cobalt oxide to make the blue color.

It’s an acquired taste lol associated with dim sum as @Bok has pointed out. Anything close to chocolate or dark roasted coffee taste certain can be call death roast. Good thing about tea shop from Asian is you can sample it before you buy.

Similar to Yixing. Factory period started in the 1950-1960s. Here is a link with other uncommon designs for various markets often mislabel as Yixing wares. https://kknews.cc/collect/28oomve.html But, Yixing was making teaware before Factory 1. Those are all Factory designs for Nixing, no? Not Qing ...

Re: Vintage nixing pots
My guess is functionality was intended to mirror Yixing and chaozhou wares per market demanded at the time.pathlesstaken wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 2:05 pm
I'm not talking about tea-clay pairing, but functionality.

Re: Vintage nixing pots
Tea pairing was not heavily focused on in the past, and Chinese teawares like Yixing and chaozhou were mostly utilitarian wares. I heard from old HK tea drinkers who received free teawares from buying teas from tea shops. Qinzhou started massively producing nixing wares when Yixing teawares were blo...

Re: US post suspended all parcels from China
I would be concerned about tax/import fee since I no longer have the waived import fee on packages worth less than $800.

Re: US post suspended all parcels from China
Apparently, Scott from Yunnan Sourcing has figured out a way to charge American buyers an extra 10% based on their IP, with everyone else paying the pre-tariff prices. Is this something other China-based vendors could do? I don't fully understand how he was able to do that, but it seems like a dece...

Re: Big Yixing teapot auction
$100-$350 price range can have a lot of options for modern and vintage pots. I actually have a nice little teapot collection, most of which I use for gaoshan. I've been halfheartedly looking for a nice 100-120 ml pre-1977 Hongni for black tea That’s a very specific category of pot :lol: $350 would ...

The gaiwan you linked is my cup of tea
However, I couldn't find myself spending a few hundred bucks on a Gaiwan unless I met the painter in-person. Here is my poor man version.
