Re: How to brew the most potent tea?
Ah to clarify I mean potency from the potential effect of plants, for example rosemary, chamomille, st johns wort etc. I believe you are in the wrong place here. This place isn't about drugs, getting high, etc. This is about tea culture and appreciation, in particular Chinese and Japanese. The "pot...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
I really hope to avoid bottled water at all costs once I can get a system worked out and hope I can use these more just as benchmarks to see where I'm getting to along the way. Maybe some combination of filtering or softening along with resting the water on binchotan and just drawing off the top wi...

Re: Where did you get your tea education?
theredbaron I think it’s not that easy. It’s easy to meet “some” tea people, but not necessarily the ones who can teach the most… that still requires a lot of work, persistence and luck. In Asia tea is something encountered daily and since childhood, yet true knowledge is still pretty rare. So most...

Re: Where did you get your tea education?
I feared this was the case. I don't have the connections or funds to travel to Asia, certainly not for the length of time you have. I also am not sure finding a "tea master" would be right for me, although finding a circle of tea people who know more than me would be welcome. It's great that you we...

Re: Where did you get your tea education?
Second that, although personally I’m avoiding anyone calling themselves master, or with followings of devoted groupies. I prefer the casual encounters without hierarchy, otherwise the risk of indoctrination and switching-off of critical thinking is high. Well, yes, definately. Drinking tea with Pau...

Re: Purple Cane Tea (Malaysia)
Purple Cane is a decent teashop. They have a chain of stores in departmental stores across Malaysia. They carry some pretty decent teaware and teas. I usually get my tea accessories, namely cloths and utensils from their store near my home. Cheers!! It's amazing how they grew from a shop in KL's Ch...

Re: Purple Cane Tea (Malaysia)
I was made aware of this shop through finding a book on gongfu they published in 1999, A Passage to Chinese Tea . However, I have no experience with their teas. It looks like they ship overseas; has anyone tried their teas? If so, what did you think? I have helped editing, in a small way, the manus...

Re: Where did you get your tea education?
Having lived in Asia for 28 years, i did it the Asian way. I started off having visited a Chinese tea house in Singapore around '91 when i was a traveler on the overland trails, which got me hooked immediately. Equipped with John Blofeld's 'The Chinese Art of Tea' - at the time the only English lang...

Re: Your First Teapot... show off!
that pot looks almost nigelnagelneu (brand new). I didn't use it as much as i should have, for a year, when i started off, and then it was for more than a decade in storage, and once i got it out of storage i had a collection of many other, better tea pots. Once a while, for memory's sake, i still ...

Re: Yixing
Look what just hopped out from the rabbit hole… Nice! :) Yours looks well loved, the patina is wow! I think i decided against resetting mine. It would destroy the patina. Well, unless i find out that the previous owner used it with some fruity tea or smilar unspeakable things ;) Europe is interesti...

Re: Your First Teapot... show off!
That’s a nice start! Thank you, I feel lucky that i have started in a period early enough, and in Asia. Next major step was traveling through many of the famous tea regions in China, only guided by John Blofeld's Chinese Art of Tea, at the time no internet and no English language publications avail...

I highly doubt this one is a modern copy. Clay looks like early 80’s period. Around 350ml?
That is what it feels to me.
Size is 250 ml

Re: Your First Teapot... show off!
My first pot, bought in Singapore in '91, a tiny F1 pot, when i first got hooked on Chinese tea. I think it was Tea Chapter in Chinatown where i bought it. At the time i stayed in an awesome little dormatory just around the corner, owned by a whacky Singaporean ex-cop, and where i always spent some ...
