Re: Understanding TCM properties of sheng

To understand the TCM properties of sheng pu er you can think of it as herbal medicine. Actually green tea (lu cha) is commonly categorized as a herbal medicine to be used in formulas. Chinese herbs are described with a specific taste, temperature, meridians entered, actions, indications and contrai...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

wave_code If the tap water has high total dissolved solids I think your filtration options to reduce it are reverse osmosis or distillation. Some reverse osmosis units that are fairly compact and convenient. Another option is to fill up a large glass container with filtered, distilled or RO water f...

Re: Tea Trays!

todbranson40 Agree with what Bok said. You could make a tray from local materials if you have the tools, like a slice from a cut down tree, or a piece of wood from local lumber store, even pallet wood could be repurposed. Most wood can be finished to be water resistant. And if you are brewing in a ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

I just opened a cake of the 2006 Fuhai 7576 Lao Shu Ye Sheng Qiao Mu Yuan Cha (I'm joking of course, I'm sure it's very ordinary tea!) I've always enjoyed the light fermentation and Cha Qi of this 2006 Fuhai 7576, and it really seems to be aging nicely. I think this is likely due to my updated stora...

Re: Cast iron teapots

@wave_code Thanks for the mention. I actually just sold that teapot. I'll update the listing. And I agree, I would prefer a porcelain teapot to a cast iron one for brewing tea.

Re: Spotting tea sub-cultures through the slang they use?

My feeling is if someone knows of an affordable tea they find really great for the price, they will use less generic wording... or maybe refrain from sharing their thoughts on that tea? The first rule of fight club is you don't talk about a great tea that is also a great deal. That is until you've ...

Just finished the last of 1993 Sichuan Ya'an tea factory Jin Jian Tibetan brick tea I had laying around. This one looked like someone raked up some leaves and twigs from their yard and packed it up. Pretty old though, so it had that going for it. The grunge years and all. "With the lights out it's l...

I think the professor in the video mentioned a few characteristics of qing puerh: Leaves were harvested near the boarder of Yunnan, harvested from tea plantations that have exhausted the nutrients in the soils, Guangdong area (offspring of the Yunnan puerh tea tr...

@DailyTX I don't remember if that term was used, but I might have missed it. Is that puer processed differently or new tea? Mainly we drank fresh mao cha. It was processed but not pressed, and often recently made. Interesting video - I wish it had english subtitles! :D

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

LeoFox Agreed. I don't drink a lot of young sheng. I don't feel good when I do. A while back I visited Yunnan and felt okay drinking it there, my guess is that the hot and humid environment along with all the spicy food balanced out the tea. The locals in the mountains seem to mostly drink young sh...
