Re: What Black Are You Drinking

An assam: HALMARI ESTATE TGFOP1 (2020 OR-130) via upton tea imports I'm surprised at how thick and smooth this one is - feels like a chocolate whirlpool swirling in my mouth. "chocolate whirlpool"? Provokes an idea though it is nonsensical, so it is fun. I congratulate you on finding many ways to e...

Re: Red Oolong tea

I can understand how tea that is packed in a crate covered by canvas can be a fermented red oolong while tea in a pile oxidized openly in the sun can also be a red oolong. Perhaps both ways can put brews in cups that are very similar. (Leading back to the familiar situation, one does not know how a ...

Re: Not selling this Winter's tea until March

Rating tea after a resting/opening up period: I decided not to sell any tea before it has had time to show its features fully. I believe that many teas change significantly a few months, even inside vacuum packs. Additionally drinking teas for a few months leads to better assessments than drinking t...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Ethan Kurland My point of reference is Taiwanese Oriental Beauty which can offer similarly rich aromatics without sacrificing the taste and body. Not a favorable comparison, it shows how the huge the gap is. But perhaps just a bad batch, produced during rainy period or something... That's really in...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

m., I never went as low in temperature as LeoFox suggested to you. I often steeped w/ temperature that I use for oolong since "black" tea from Nepal often belonged as much in the oolong category or belonged even more in the oolong category. Hopefully you will find preparation that yields you enjoyab...

Re: Leafy Green Tea

I don't believe you have a website do you Ethan? Just gota find your vendor page here or PM? No website. Under my full name I list my teas as part of the vendor section. List of teas currently available is on page 5 of my thread, the post of June 5, 2021. I will be closed for business from February...

Re: Leafy Green Tea

harrison1986,.... Regardless of what the timer says you will want your infusions to be about the same in character. In my case I focus on brewing for body and then enjoy they changes in aromatics/sensations between each steeping. Body aligns closely with color and may be an easier indicator for you...

Re: Where do you buy your gaiwans?

For me a fancy Gaiwan is a bit like a fancy umbrella - no point. It’s either gonna get lost/destroyed or broken anyways. The cheap ones do no less good a job than the expensive ones and if they break it’s not a big deal. +1. I will add that I have many gaiwans from quite small to awkwardly large & ...

When a host is filling cups & serving them to guests, his hands could get too hot. Guests need not worry about germs etc. put on or near the rim of cups that their lips will touch.

Re: Taiwan Oolong tea whole seller and old master of Yixing tea pot

I, as a vendor, should not get into this much, perhaps. I will respond only to numbers. The amount of tea that this wholesaler sells per year is not that impressive. A zero would be needed to be added to the amount of kilos of tea sold for this wholesaler to be a great player in Taiwan's wholesale t...

Re: Rec. Request: US/American Tea Vendors

I’ll also add my local tea house called The Steeping Room : https://www.thesteepingroom.com/ Some of their teas are very good, especially their greens and reds. Right now I am enjoying their Jun Chiyabari ‘Shiba’, various Korean teas, Wild Da Xue Shan, and their organic sencha offerings. The Shiba ...
