Re: Retail Profits in Specialty Tea

choffman: I think that overall, we are in massive agreement here. I applaud your efforts to increase transparency and I wish you well in your efforts. I believe that being transparent is really the only way forward in this (or any) business. Ethan: No, a couple of small players in the business - an...

Re: Retail Profits in Specialty Tea

3. In order to keep our prices as low as possible, we often attempt to negotiate heavily with the farmers. How should this be incorporated? We may be spending $10 for tea, but a competitor is paying $15. This compounds with their higher margin to vastly increase their retail price relative to ours....

Re: Research Corner: Interesting Journal Articles

Nice category & comments Pedant. This forum is exceptional for having some members who are not intellectually lazy. I am lazy 99% of the time. Nonetheless, I read a long study done by Tufts University a year or so ago on the effect or lack of effect on antioxidants. 3% of people are effected at all ...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

..... This was one of the cheapest baozhongs he had, so of course it's not that good. But I bought it for education purposes. But still, it's been hard to finish. It has the characteristic brightness you would expect but it's missing any sort of even secondary flavor note. It just tastes bright, wh...

Re: How is this season looking?

Would depend on where in the world... also Well, where in the world are the “spring seasons” right around the corner? For Taiwan, the high-mountain Spring tea will start being sold in May. I don't know how one could predict how a tea or tea in general will come out. Too many variables. I've found b...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Not so sure about organic or not, I heard that high mountain tea can almost not be truly organic due to the harsher growing conditions... and I am certain climate change will change the tea landscape considerably in the future so I’ll have the best while I can! Bok, You know the tea situation in Ta...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

I have "that" tea from a couple of years back---aged. Once aged, that is what I call Father's Love. I'm down to my last 100 grams of it. I consider it the best tea that I own on an objective basis, not whether it is my favorite. There are so many reasons one can argue for how special Father's Love i...

Re: oolong fairy brewing time?

I recently purchased a Fairy oolong by a well-known Danish tea shop. They recommend brewing it with 100 °C water for 8 minutes.... That shop in Denmark may soon be well known for giving bad recommendations for brewing. You might take a sip of what you are brewing while you are preparing your tea, e...

Re: Would you guys pay this much for a chawan?

I do have to say I support that artisans get paid justly for their troubles. Talking from experience, it is only dirt yes, but it takes a lot of skill and hard work to extract a nice teapot from it! Most potters I know, do not make a super comfortable living of it, surviving yes, but mostly they ar...

Re: Would you guys pay this much for a chawan?

I not an expert & have a lot less money than ......yet, I feel confident in saying, "high prices". A potter I know who kept her prices low always said,, "It's made of dirt." Thus, I've never understood the high-end of price range for ceramics. Nonetheless, we might heed Victoria; it's so nice to be ...

Re: Simple, reliable preparation

The teas that I have been drinking lately taste better when steeped quickly & are stacked. I am not changing anything from what I would do if drinking each infusion alone. I've been stacking for a couple of years but drinking half of each infusion by itself & half combined. I was preparing each infu...

Simple, reliable preparation

Last week as soon as I emptied a teapot of an infusion, I filled it w/ water for the next infusion. All infusions (usually 3) were poured into a pitcher. Thus, I never drank a single infusion. All I drank were the stacked infusions. It was an excellent week for tea w/ no nasty surprises & no disappo...

Currently savoring a late night cup of 2017 Castleton 2nd Flush. Both FF and SF Darj have become daily drinkers for me. I ought to restock soon, as a hedge against this year's harvest being adversely affected by garden neglect from 2017. I might give either darjeelingteaboutique or darjeelingtealov...
