Re: Schott glass teapots

My mom has one, marked Jena Therm, it might as well be from the 30s. The lid got broken recently, she uses it to water plants in the basement. :o :( Super thin laboratory glass, makes me worry of breaking it just by being near to it, but otherwise absolutely delightful to handle. Makes a set with wi...

Re: Why is glaze acceptable on Tokoname Clay, but not on Yixing/Nixing/Jianshui?

I own a Yixing pot as well and, from my understanding, it is bad for any type of glaze to be on the pot because this will limit the porousness of the pot. This is also the same line of reasoning I use when I age my puerh in a Yixing pot so that air can come and go through the pores. It makes sense ...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

@Ethan Kurland My point of reference is Taiwanese Oriental Beauty which can offer similarly rich aromatics without sacrificing the taste and body. Not a favorable comparison, it shows how the huge the gap is. But perhaps just a bad batch, produced during rainy period or something...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Have you tried steeping like sencha? 80-85C - 4g/100 ml 40s I find that works great for many teas from jun Thanks, I should try that next time. It make sense to treat it more like a green tea than as black. However in this case it could only mitigate the bad quality of the tea. I hear Jun Chiyabari...

FS: 60ml yixing hongni teapot, Factory 1 white label

I'm offering a small cca 60ml yixing teapot in hongni clay. Made in Factory 1 during the white label period (1987-1992). Clean in perfect condition, can even supply the original sticker. Good lid fit (for a factory production), thin walls, high firing. Originally acquired from Essence of Tea. Price:...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Jun Chiyabari second flush organic (from Camellia Sinensis in Montreal): a big disappointment for me. The tea feels like it's been designed to have the strongest possible muscatel smell. And it does deliver on the aroma front. But when it comes to taste, it is vegetal and astringent (and this is a 2...

Re: Yixing advice

Thank you for your advice! I think I'm "theorizing" too much on small details. After your advices I've looked on the websites and found this one. https://essenceoftea.com/collections/yixing-teapots/products/100ml-fangxia-zini-shui-ping-yixing-teapot Not too expensive, I might buy another one so I c...

Gong_Fu_Chaddict These pots are worth consideration too: https://teaswelike.com/product-category/new-pots/ As with "pot chooses tea", i deeply disagree with this notion. Some teas and some methods of brewing work better in some pots, or give slightly different results in different pots, but that do...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Does the Chen Pi Puerh work for the headcold ? I'm not sure. :) The books say it dispels cold dampness and transform phlegm, and regulates lung, spleen and stomach channels. It sounds like it would fit well with typical symptoms of common cold, but i have no actual medical knowledge, and all depend...

yinyautong Wow that's fancy. I just checked at KTM it currently goes at USD 1,789 per cake  Drinking 2020 EoT Kunlu Wild. It's one of the wild teas that are distinctly not puerh but something completely different. Bitter and citrusy (mainly grapefruit) reminiscing of IPA, very juicy and tast...

Re: Yinchen Studio

Yinchen seem to be working with many side channels / distributors. I find it more likely that they sell generic and mass produced pots that other vendors sell as well. Or why do they not sell under their own label/name on aliexpress? Yinchen seem to be just another bullshitter in the chinese tea bu...

Re: Mei leaf

Oh wow, the mei leaf yancha is worse than those teas from YS? One of those YS teas I ended up throwing into the garbage after two sessions, and I'm a pretty stingy guy! In my experience YS can be wildly variable in the quality: from teas that shine well above their price range to teas that feel nas...
