Re: Have you ever settled on one type of tea?

I've been drinking loose leaf tea since 2006 and haven't settled into buying only familiar teas. Something I really enjoy about tea is how much variety is out there which makes it impossible to get bored of. I still try new teas and sometimes new vendors, but I also re-order old favourites. Usually ...

Re: Sencha: what water temp do you use for the second cup?

I always use the same temperature for each infusion since I find that increasing the temperature for later infusions tends to draw out an unpleasant straw like flavour from sencha.

The temp I use is....when holding my hand to the side of the kettle starts to feel uncomfortable.

Re: The next matcha?

You could give Matcha Manten from O-cha a try if you want to try koicha grade matcha.

I've been drinking pretty much only Matsu no Midori from Maiko tea for a while now it's a relatively affordable sweet balanced matcha. Kotobuki is a higher end relatively sweet matcha also from Maiko tea.

Re: The next matcha?

What matcha have you tried so far? Different matchas of similar grades have different balances of sweet/umami/bitter/astringent. They also can have different "notes" like one could remind you of cacao and another remind you of nori. Very high grade matcha is less harsh than lower grade matcha and ca...

Spring 2018 Chinese Greens

I usually don't drink much Chinese green tea but this year I've decided to give a try to some fresh spring teas from Yunnan Sourcing and ordered the Yunnan "First Flush" Spring 2018 Green Tea Sampler which includes: 50 grams - Yunnan Green Spring Snail Bi Luo Chun Green tea * Spring 2018 50 grams - ...

Re: 2018 Shincha Ordering Topic

I will certainly be ordering the SM, YM, Aoi trifecta. Beyond that ... I do not know yet. I opened my last bag of 2017 sencha, Aoi. I am down to around 77 grams. I don't think I will make it. I do have some of O-cha's Uji teabags. Still going to come up short ... :( I will likely preorder shincha f...

Zencha.net ... off my list
I wonder why is Zencha off the list? It's been several years since I ordered from them though I remember liking their tea.

Re: Ideal temperature for drinking; ideal amount....

I think that the ideal temperature to drink tea is only slightly above body temperature. Tea should feel pleasantly warm but never painful. That's about 40°C (104°F). The mucosa in your mouth and throat is more delicate than your skin and it can be easily damaged by drinking things that are too hot ...

Re: To Reset My Pots or Not

Based upon a recent experience with a reset pot and how my seasoned pots behave, I have a feeling that too much seasoning may be detrimental. Essentially, the internal surface has changed significantly from what it was. They are now coated with minerals and the natural waxes from teas brewed in the...

Re: soapy bubbles on brewing tea?

When I first saw this thread I was wondering if it was a Dianhong... I buy a lot of Dianhong from Yunnan Sourcing and many of them leave a lot of oily residue in my cups and pots and form more bubbles when the water is agitated than most other black teas. I still haven't seen anything quite so persi...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Did Bitterleaf Teas go by a different name in the past? The style of wrapper looks familiar, but not the name of the store. As far as I know they’ve always been Bitterleaf Teas. Been buying from them for almost three years now. It was Tea Urchin that I was thinking of with colourful characters pain...

Re: Oolongs vendor topic

Another great source for Taiwan oolongs is https://www.taiwanteacrafts.com/ They're run by a tea producing family and have a wide selection of teas and a decent selection of teaware too. I've been especially happy with their roasted oolongs all of which have a nice smooth mouthfeel and none of the i...

Spearmint tea from Dragon Tea House. This has a really intense fresh flavour and I like that it's the whole dried herb rather than the finely chopped leaves of most spearmint teas I've tried before. 2012101802-1_1__88178.1406692366.1280.1280.jpg It's true, all I've tried have been as you have descr...
