So I think the main problem with using a pill is that a large amount of iron and calcium would dissolve. Thanks Rickpatbrown for the experiment! That all makes sense to me. Probably with the medium strength water, the "pure water taste" was able to come through with all of its fragrance, without getting too muted by any excess bicarbonates, and the calcium hardness was there to extract a nice presence....
