Re: What would you tell your novice self about tea
Loving the repeated focus on water.
What comes to mind otherwise is - don't try a stupid storage experiment - be conservative, keep the puer alive.
Make sure you pay attention to your own opinions and experiences rather than relying on those of others, but listen to others too.

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
Wow, that is an incredibly detailed approach to water for tea  I wish I had that level of dedication to getting quality water, but I'll admit I usually just use tap water filtered through the fridge. The tap water where I live is decent enough, although a bit on the hard side. Thankfully I h...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
This was my water today - over the past two weeks I replicated water from the West tributary of the Pearl River Delta in China. This water flows all the way to Yunnan. I then made tea with it, and reported on it in this post! Finally my pure water is decent quality, so the water is becoming very enj...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
So happy with the feedback on the livestream! It seemed to clear up a lot and get to the important points and contexts of water and tea. A quick synopsis is up on the blog, but I'll make one here for this thread (in no particular order): I explained the seven major ions I talked about silica for a w...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
I haven't had time to go through and read the entire thread yet, but I wanted to say I really love the research and information posted that I've read so far, especially the "recipe" for water from Empiral Tea's blog that Teasecret reported on. My municipal water is pretty hard, especially in the wi...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
Quick update, The Truth Serum updated version as can be seen on my blog has been receiving a lot of positive feedback, some people saying it's the best water solution for tea they've ever used, and that it brings out new flavors with really good clarity. So, I'm really happy about that. Arby from em...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
Do you consider Chlorides and Sulfates as beneficial for tea? I'm probably simplifying too much since things have to be considered in relation to other minerals, i guess, but still, what role do they play? And what is the difference Mg vs Ca in your opinion? Glad you found this post interesting! Ye...

Re: Iron pill & calcium pill to enhance water for tea?
So I think the main problem with using a pill is that a large amount of iron and calcium would dissolve. I would recommend sending tetsubin water to a lab similar to ward labs and analyzing it for iron. Then you could see how much is in there and potentially dissolve that amount yourself. I personal...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
I also noticed that my CaCO3 concentrate is often cloudy, even at only half a gram per 900ml. No idea why this would be, as MgCO3 concentrate is totally clear, but less useful. https://teasecrets.home.blog/2021/01/02/water-recipe-2-2-3-heavy/ Were you using MgCO3 or MgSO4? The former should be almo...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
Thanks Rickpatbrown for the experiment! That all makes sense to me. Probably with the medium strength water, the "pure water taste" was able to come through with all of its fragrance, without getting too muted by any excess bicarbonates, and the calcium hardness was there to extract a nice presence....

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
This is fantastic! I fully support this approach. Its interesting that you are looking at differnet teas with the same water. I would have done the opposite, 3 waters with one tea. I think it would be easier to taste the effects of different water than trying to recall back to a previous day/week s...
