Re: Combining Tea with other Interests

I read while drinking my tea. I primarily read fantasy. And even better is a good book and grandpa styling some green tea in the bathtub. Cause the relaxation from the tea combined with the relaxation from the bath is a fabulous stress reliever. Plus, the steam from the bath really helps with tastin...

Re: Tong-worthy teas

White Crow shomei white tea from Bitterleaf. I would have bought a tong if I had the money, most I could justify getting was three cakes. Considering that I've never bought more than one cake of any kind of tea before that's pretty impressive.

Re: Hagi

The survival of the hagis, lol. You know you're into teaware when you're perfectly fine with your cup leaking a bit and cracking and consider that not only normal, but part of the charm. I have not mentioned it to my family. They would not understand.   I used a biwa chawan from Sei...

Re: Novice help please

This is great information, thank you. I believe I understand the logic of the first step being longer, but having numbers to reference will definitely help. Working on improving my teas, unfortunately I decided that I'd place my first orders during Chinese New Year :P You do have me curious about t...

Re: Question regarding rolled roasted teas

I wonder if it's a Western thing to steep a tea till there's absolutely nothing left, do you find people in Taiwan will just stop when they feel like it? To be honest, i hear about people pushing teas for extremely long steeps getting everything they can out of the tea and I always feel a bit guilt...

Re: Question regarding rolled roasted teas

Dang though, 600g is a lot of oolong...I’d have to be married to the tea I was buying to get that much in one go. All relative, you just get more liberal with how much leaf you throw in the pot. Also I do rarely feel the need, or in this case economic necessity, to squeeze every little bit of flavo...

And that’s some pretty high tech stuff @Victoria, for the sealing. I can just see it now, using my straightener to seal stuff. I haven’t actually used it on my hair in years.

Re: favorite Gaoshan (high mountain) vendor

I am always on the hunt for new and interesting ones though. Ethan Kurland, where can I get your tea? :D I will send you a PM in at the end of the week. I am traveling right now. Tea for this Winter won't be for sale in general for a couple of weeks. Cool, thanks! [/quote] Victoria is right, the bl...

Re: favorite Gaoshan (high mountain) vendor

Baisao and Bok , good to know I'm not the only one. I didn't like the flavor at all, just something about it was so off-putting that as soon as I took a sip, I dumped the tea and tossed the whole bag, just couldn't stomach the idea of drinking more. It was from TTC btw, so while it wasn't top shelf...

Re: favorite Gaoshan (high mountain) vendor

I could try that. Now that I think about it I haven't tried any in years, since I was a new, baby tea drinker. I wasn't impressed at the time (hence not having any since), but my tastes have changed somewhat, and I've learned a lot. It doesn't really matter to me if it's bug bitten though, any oolo...

Re: favorite Gaoshan (high mountain) vendor

Are you looking for Oriental Beauty? Still oolong but higher oxidation levels, with a deeper honey fruit spice profile. I could try that. Now that I think about it I haven't tried any in years, since I was a new, baby tea drinker. I wasn't impressed at the time (hence not having any since), but my ...

Re: favorite Gaoshan (high mountain) vendor

Anyone have a vendor they like that sells unroasted highly oxidized gaoshan? I’m looking for anything above 30% oxidation. What do you mean by "highly oxidized"? Gaoshan that in Taiwan would be called "Green" is usually about 5% and black tea is about 100% oxidized. What level in-between do you des...

Re: Question regarding rolled roasted teas

@Victoria, what vacuum sealer do you use to repack the tea? I’ve been shopping around for one...amd looking for one that works well with the really heavy duty bags we like to use for tea (the thick non see through kind).

Re: How much will you spend on tea this year?

Around $800. Not including teaware. I plan to get another hagi this year, so more for that. I’m starting my tea year in the spring, cause to me it makes the most sense to start with the spring tea harvest. ;) I’ve actually been working on an actual budget this year cause I’m trying to save up for so...
