I'm heading over to Floating Leaves tomorrow or the day after, I'm so excited it's finally gaoshan season.
Does she let you sample first? I know she has tea tastings that have a fee for drinking a few teas.
She has tastings on the weekends, it does have a fee.

Re: SHINCHA 2019!

So my dad just got back from a visit to Japan and he brought me back some shincha! (At least he thought it was shincha.) He stopped at a place, I don’t know where, and got some, I have no clue where it’s from but I’mmpretty sure it’s a light steamed sencha. I love it. It’s very fresh and light. It h...

Re: Recommendations for a newb

+1 for Crimson Lotus. They are my favorite, and all their stuff is stellar. They have samples too, and also a sample pack where you can get a sample of everything, which is worth it for you. Plus, their selection is well curated. Yunnan Sourcing has great stuff, but it can be bewildering to even try...

Re: SHINCHA 2019!

I ordered a second package of the 20th anniversary. I’ll save it for later this summer, when I intend to work lots of overtime. This’ll help me get through the tough part of the summer!

Re: Hagi

Are these leaking when making matcha or leaking when a less viscous tea is poured into them? I think I recall someone saying they were using these biwa chawan for sencha, which is why I ask. Mine was leaking for any kind of tea. I don’t drink matcha. At least not yet . I say “was” because ...

Re: Anyone ever bought Chinese greens from Tea Trekker or Seven Cups?

Seven Cups seems way overpriced to me. Seriously, $27 for 25g for Bi Luo Chun? Unless this is some rare, artisanal tea from thousand year old trees there's no reason to charge more than a $1 per gram for what is an otherwise ordinary green tea. LuckyMe, I don't mean to be deliberately contrarian, h...

Re: Questions about storing tea in fridge

Do most of you refrigerate your sencha if you order several bags at once? Like, refrigerate them and take out each bag when you’re ready to drink it? It doesn’t deteriorate more quickly when opened, provided the proper time to come up to temp is given? I have so much shincha now I’m practically swim...

Re: Hokujo vs Kobiwako clay

I will keep testing it for sencha because I don't have any spring gaoshan yet :( I got an ounce of winter Dayuling from floating leaves when I was there last week, cause I knew I’d need it to tide me over. Actually, come to think of it, that was a really good way to test the pot. Because it really ...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I’ve been playing around with my leaf ratio for O cha’s 20th anniversary sencha, and it was never quite what I wanted. Then, today I made a happy mistake and discovered that I like this tea with less than the recommended leaf ratio, rather than more, which is what I had been doing. I put part of the...

Anyone ever bought Chinese greens from Tea Trekker or Seven Cups?

If so, how was it? I’m looking for more sources of Chinese greens, wanted to know how their quality was.

Edit: while I’m at it, does anyone know how to actually buy this year’s green tea from Life in a Teacup? Their page says that it’s in stock but there’s nowhere to order.

Re: Hokujo vs Kobiwako clay

After more testing, I have decided that, like Bok , I really like the Kobiwako for my gaoshan. Actually, it’s one of my fave pairings of teapot to tea, it seems to take each individual flavor in the tea and elevated it, so each nuance is distinct, and easier to pick out. It takes what’s already ther...
