Re: Yixing

cheers! now to clean it up and see how brews. this is the 3rd of 4th F2 pot I have now, if it is one, and each of them have quite different clay. so also would come as no surprise then too if they alternated between multi hole and single hole and other filter types over time. I guess F1 did this too...

Re: Yixing

Maybe someone here has an idea on this one... I haven't cleaned it up yet. I have so far just been told it is likely not F1, which I figured - the seal doesn't match the ones I have seen on the F1 versions of these pots I have seen. It is single hole unlike most of the F2 pots I have seen. So I am w...

Baokun Sun/孫宝坤

...from Jingdezehn. From what I have seen the work is going quite a different direction than producing your typical white ultra thin porcelain work the region is know for. The pots are thicker and heavier looking made from creamy glazed clays. The work I have seen I really like, though searching in ...

Re: The Porcelain Thread

This one has been a bit of a mystery/curiosity and for reference I'd like to try and figure it out. Celadon color but on the very light side, a modern CZ cup and Qing green bean cup are pictured here for color reference. In some ways it seems older - shape, glaze/firing imperfections, lack of glazin...

Re: The Porcelain Thread

I'm guessing B is the factory gaiwan due to it looking higher quality on the print, but I could see how the lighter one could be older too. I just feel modern rice grain stuff I see is so janky, but I also don't see that flower pattern used much then either. now I am curious @sheep.payday2

Re: Boiled tea flavour

I've always had pretty unfavorable results from literally boiling leaves, especially in metal pots. When still mild there wasn't much to it, and it seemed to either come out that way or over-brewed with the mentioned nasty metallic notes. For getting everything I can out of old or nicer spent leaves...

Japan tips for non-green tea lovers

Currently in the early stages of planning a trip for the fall. Will be spending time in Kyoto and Osaka/surrounding area, some time in Tokyo, and the rest is still to be determined - trying to balance plenty of time in cities as well as getting out in to nature, temple visits, etc... While I think I...

Re: Probably a nixing teapot

No, I would say this is a quite nice version of this pot. Ones with Chinese seals tend to go for more money as special batches of clay and higher workmanship pots tend to have those seals- though I have both English and Chinese seal versions of these and other shape pots with both good and bad workm...

Re: Probably a nixing teapot

such a hater Bok  it can't all be antique zhuni. I am curious what your direct experience with it is- newer or older pots and what you were brewing with it? I'm not trying to call you wrong here - we all have our opinions and tastes. I know you know your clay which makes me even more curious ab...

Re: Yixing

For stubborn pot smells I have tried vinegar, baking soda, citric acid soaks and boiling all with pretty limited success - nothing has worked as well for me as sodium percarbonate for any kind of cleaning.

Re: Question on stockpiled clay

no, not what I meant, but it sounds like this is a different effect anyway. what I mean is when it looks almost as though you had removed a grain or two of sand or mineral from the clay once it was fired or while it was vitirfying, like a little pock mark

Re: Question on stockpiled clay

2. In order to save time and costs, chemical additives are used to skip some labor intensive clay processing steps. For example, one issue that can come up in Yixing teapot production is that some salts can come to the surface (efflorescence), causing some marks that might not be aesthetically appe...

Re: Question on stockpiled clay

This is a loaded question, here is a tiny bit of information I gathered…there are different mine sites in the HuangLongShan area. Factory one mainly used mine #4. Most clays used from late 1970s onward were blended to get color consistency and met demand of the market. 1990s started to have private...

Trying something very different from my usual thing for fun… late Qing cz pot, two late Qing green bean cups, Fukien top grade shui xian in a simple 3 and done style.
