Re: Yixing

A sideways anecdote: recent price I saw here for a 60s Hongni Shuiping 12-cups. Asking price the equivalent of 1600USD! M e n t a l . I knew these large ones are sort of rare, but that price is not worth it. For that price I can get a nice antique instead... yes those are steep. I might even consid...

Re: Tea and teaware

Thanks for the kind comments! Ofc. It's Shuipings. Will you do a series on Xishi too? I really have to see some good Xishi-s. :D It's shuipings but it's not a post about shuipings specifically... I am more interested in starting from a point I want to make and then picking teaware that is a go...

Re: Collecting "falling out of love with pu'er" stories from Blogspot

In the end, everyone has her/his own preferences :) i've been enjoying puer for ~13 years and I still find it (together with yancha) the most interesting type of tea. The advice to be wary of hype is a good one, one needs to be honest with oneself and decide if they actually like the tea or if they'...

Re: Yixing

Thanks Bok, exactly the insight I was after. So, it's not necessarily a defining characteristic. As to be expected, many variables and variations within the same category. The piece I handled was made by 许福军, who is recognized as a Zhuni specialist. I suppose if one were to have access to genuine, ...

Re: Yixing

steanze: that's a very interesting pot... Thanks for posting those photos, greatly appreciated. Are the darker areas on the base something in the nature of 'carbon point', or is it something more specific to dragon kilns or wood firing? Andrew Yes, it's an interesting one. It also looks like there ...

steanze Interesting! Why is the color of the lid different from the body?
Ah, that's the main reason I picked up this pot, it has a nice gradient of reduction effect along the lid from the wood firing.

(thanks @pedant for the help with the image size issues)
