Re: Yixing

Let me show my update on the teapot cleaning - it arrived recently and to my release, it appeared not so dirty as I thought. Seems it was used as a water dropper for calligraphy so minor ink stains were only on the outside, along with mineral scale residues from around the lid opening and on the ed...

Yes, that's a very useful thread...

This blog post by Youzi is excellent: https://www.teapotandtea.com/the-histor ... of-yixing/
Huang long shan (that is, "benshan") is only one of the historical mines

Re: Henan purple clay and other non-yixing zisha

I think zisha from other areas other than yixing maybe more common in the market because it cost less. Often we see a term Benshan, which means zisha from Yixing. Anything that’s not Benshan can be assume from other areas outside. Yixing did import zisha from other areas to make Yixing pots. Bensha...

Re: Yixing

Hello people! I’ve got an idea and can’t let it go for quite a some time, so decided to discuss it here. What if a teapot was used hard and was left neglected, or served as an ink reservoir and looks really messy, totally black and greasy inside and soaked with ink flow traces outside heavily, how ...

Re: Yixing

I think my interest is more in 'unglazed stoneware' in general over just Yixing. It just so happens that Yixing is most of the market. Couple new pieces! Some I'm more sure and others I'm less sure about. That pot with the crack has very nice clay! Looks 50s. Yes, I am interested in teaware aesthet...

Re: Yixing

Do you think that it can be reasonably argued that there are certain Yixing age ranges you should skip because they’re not worth it generally, compared to a run of the mill contemporary pot, or because of diminishing returns, and that there are ranges that you think people should save up for instea...

Re: Yixing

Do you think it was made by machine with subsequent modification for the "fhm" teapot? I don't quite understand why the inclusions of other clay are so clearly visible at the bottom of the pot and practically not visible on the walls inside? What about glitter? Is this some kind of varnish? How com...

Re: Yixing

Hello! I bought this teapot at a local tea shop and would like to hear your opinion. The store claims that the teapot is made of jiang po ni clay by master Lei Aimei. One person claims that it is a fake and not even made of Yixing clay. Perhaps some of the signs are imitations and I was fooled by t...

Re: Yixing

A pot I’ve been liking a lot since a long time, but have always put on hold for a variety of reasons, finally in my collection! 1960s Hongni Bianyuan. A rarely seen, but very beautiful in its simplicity. My second favourite teapot shape. Also, just for the clay I’m willing to put my snobbery aside ...

Re: looking for any info on the quality/authenticity of this pot. Thanks a lot!!

I am absolutely no expert, but I'm wondering about the seals. The right hand one seems to say Mèng Chén (孟臣) but I have so far not yet seen any version attributed to him in seal script, so far I've ever only seen handwritten signing. But obviously the pot is much too young for being his work. The s...

Re: Yixing

Is it really polished? Or is it patina? Shape make me think of other local Indonesian yixing imitations I’ve seen before. Can be still old though. To be honest, i'm not completely sure whether it is yixing, and I am open to the possibility it is from Indonesia. :) What I am able to say: - The outer...

Re: Question on stockpiled clay

"So the big turn around happened in 1980. Clay made before this time period was processed without the addition of BaCO3. Stored clay experiences efflorescence which is when the salt content is expelled from a porous material and sits on the surface. Yixing clay has to be aged and without chemical a...
