Re: Duan ni and friends

Love the variety of clay and designs in this thread. Here's my humble contribution.

Re: Are we allowed to talk vendors?

I feel pretty lukewarm on YS but I have found some heicha and a couple aged sheng puerhs I've liked. I also appreciate that, over a decade ago, I was able to buy my very first puerh cake there, a Dayi 7542, and feel confident it was real. (Although it also scared me away from puerh for several years...

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking

Currently drinking a smoked tianjian that starts off almost barbequey, but thought to make it in a semi-recently acquired 70s hongni pot. It seems like a weird combination but my idea was it could perhaps tame the smoke a bit while letting more of the later fruitiness though, compared to the zini/du...

Re: Yinchen Studio

Semi-relatedly, I've noticed that a few pots sold by Yinchen have also been sold as entry-level pots by Yanni, at around the same price. I get the impression that there are just some potters selling to multiple buyers/resellers, which makes sense to me from a business perspective. This should maybe ...

Re: Yixing

Chris Glad you are enjoying this pot! I know some people look down on zini from this era but I actually think it works really well for the types of teas I drink. Not sure if the lid is a mismatch on this one but there did seem to be slight differences in color. I tried this pot with a lot of stuff ...

Re: Yixing

First one looks like difference in patina due to less exposure to tea. It became like this after use, right? Correct, and I agree this is what's happening. Mostly just wanted to share something somewhat relevant but non-calligraphy-related ;) That said, do you think the TWL example could be a diffe...

Re: Yixing

./download/file.php?id=9594 this looks more like the result of usage... body will always tend to stain darker with use than the lid, unless active countermeasures are taken. Simply due to the fact that the body is soaked in tea all the time, while the lid is not. Anyway-- I have a couple pots doing...

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking

Was the Xiang Yi sample the heizhuan brick YS currently stocks? And what's the brick you have on the way? I've had two samples from that brand, both fuzhuans. That heizhuan looks interesting. Yes, the YS one was the 2007 heichazhuan. I originally told myself I'd buy a brick of it and I still want t...

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking

Chris: Did you get the chance to try the "2018 Mojun Yi Hao" yet? I ended up getting a brick of it, and my first impression was a bit disappointing... Should try it a couple more times before I conclude though. Finally following up on this! I agree with you: neither of the teas I got from this fact...

Re: Di Cao Qing clay

I have one modern, woodfired DCQ pot from YZG. I use it mostly for middle-aged sheng puerh and sometimes other heicha. It makes teas consistently smooth and round, and is one of my favorite pots (alongside a Green Label zini and LQER zini).

Just my personal experience. :)

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking

Drinking my last tiny bit of GJS Jin Zhu Jin Fu. I bought a sample from YS mostly because I liked the colorful English translation of the name of the tea, "Golden Prosperity Pig Cometh." This was my least favorite of the fuzhuan samples I ordered a few months ago, but drinking it now, brewed in Gree...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

LeoFox, I found your yancha tasting notes interesting. I've had similar experiences with some vendors, though I'm reluctant to name names, tastes being subjective. Even though it doesn't fall into the unattainable/unattainable expensive category others have mentioned, I've found most of the yancha I...

I was also intrigued by the Mojun Fucha teas and have samples of the two YS carries arriving sometime next week (well, hopefully :D ). I'll report back once I have a chance to try them.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Inspired by the CNNP thread, I'm drinking Butterfly brand Fujian bag oolong tea. I would be pleasantly surprised if I got this tea at a restaurant. It's like a very, very generic yancha, one-dimensional but not exactly unpleasant. Also reminds me of mugicha. Earlier today, I was drinking spring 2020...
