I love the workmanship quality and suppose it's from the mid-70s - would love to hear your thoughts.
Nice job. It still surprises me sometimes how spanking clean these come out after a bath like that.

I can imagine this being a soothing distraction from the madness around you...

Re: Green Tea Vendor Topic

Maybe a different way to go at it: to those who buy a lot of Japanese tea - was it compared to other vendors better price for quality before the change? Maybe the original pricing was just too low to make it viable for them to sustain? Take for example Hojo, which is price quite highly (for decent q...

Re: Green Tea Vendor Topic

That was his usp: selling stuff that is hard to find on the Japan market as it’s not wha the majority there prefers to drink. I doubt he had many Japanese customers to begin with. If any mostly walk-in to the shop/teahouse.

Re: Introduce Yourself

Thank you. I will be travelling to Tokyo and Kyoto next week and planning to go to Ippodo in Kyoto to try some of their offerings. Prepare to be disappointed. While the shop in Kyoto is a nice old building, there is not much in it, trying is if I recall correctly also only possible in their attache...

Two small dishes from the Qing period. About 6-7cm diameter.

Re: Yixing

New pot, seal by 湯伯明製 [Tang Baiming zhi]. Medium-fired clay, volume 110 ml. Matte, smooth surface, made with the help of a mold, probably. Do you have any ideas about clay, what could it be? ./download/file.php?id=15024 ./download/file.php?id=15023 ./download/file.php?id=15022 ./download/file.php?i...

Re: Brass kettle useable?

My great grandmother passed away last year, and I got this kettle from her. I have no idea if I can actually use it to brew tea or not, and the only thing it says is “Made in Germany” on the bottom. Does anyone know if it’s usable? ./download/file.php?id=15010 Clean it, cook water and try how you l...

Re: Yixing

i_viter You are welcome, hope it works out for you! I have had some pots fired again, but that was more to get underfired clays up to a usable standard. It is not without its dangers and pitfalls to consider, but if it works and the teaware survives, it can yield amazing results. As a potter yourse...

Re: Yixing

Hello people! I’ve got an idea and can’t let it go for quite a some time, so decided to discuss it here. What if a teapot was used hard and was left neglected, or served as an ink reservoir and looks really messy, totally black and greasy inside and soaked with ink flow traces outside heavily, how ...

Re: Thinking about how to get your tea to please you the most it can

I'm with leave the party when it's at its best – same as I tend to eat the part I like most last of a given meal. I'd like to keep the best taste in mouth, ideally lingering there for a while. If I go past that, chances are it gets washed away and dulled.

Re: What is "Crimson Pearl Oolong?"

Pearl being a bit unusual term to describe that it's a rolled leaf oolong. Lack of description and details let me think this is a generic, mid-low level offering.
