Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Xinrenxiang Dancong from Phoenix mountain. Thinking of the nice shop owner I bought it from in the Guangzhou tea market, the world’s largest - which is now probably deserted and throwing lots of businesses into economic uncertainty... Clean tasting and subtle in its expression, while not the best I’...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing

In my experience a week is maybe a bit excessive. I usually only boil once more with hot water for a short period after the sodium percarb. Never had any taste remaining... or also good just soak in hot water overnight.

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing

Mark-S I call BS on what the seller told you... also there’s no such thing as affordable Yancha. Can’t really compare it with other teas. The same money will get you a less good quality compared to say a Dancong or Taiwanese Oolong, simply die to scarcity and demand for Yancha. Germany is not (yet)...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing

Mark-S at that price the tea is unlikely to be medium quality, more likely low. What you describe sounds to me like the problem is the tea. Not even mentioning that genuine DHP is not available at even close to this price point, so to begin with it’s something else than written on the bag. I also d...

Re: Coronavirus

They did not even have a disease control body to deal with an epidemic, they are just building it now! Really? That's crazy. Are they building it now as in response to the coronavirus, or were they just starting to create it when this happened? Sadly, the former... and they have an especially high ...

Re: Coronavirus

Next place to watch is Japan… Myself I have canceled an upcoming Japan trip. Taiwans government has already put Japan on the to-watch list(next is only essential travel, followed by don’t go), as they seem to be handling the situation rather badly. They did not even have a disease control body to de...

Re: Has anyone every drank tea from a well seasoned yixing?

From one tricky question to the next… :) There are general conventions on which clay pairs well with what – B U T – I have long and painfully learned that Yixing is a lot more complex than that. First of all a lot of other factors come in play aside from the clay, like size, wall thickness, general ...

Some scary stuff. I wonder if ignorance really is bliss.
All things considered, everyday staples are probably more concerning: Meat, dairy, vegetables, anything sweet and/or processed. I'd worry more about my daily bread and butter than tea...

Nice one! Is it from that one brand that posts a lot on Instagram? I was tempted by the looks of them, but do not really have good use for a glass teapot.

Re: Y. Hiromi Woodfired kyusu

Very nice pot, I like the shape. Looking at those wood fired patterns, it makes it very obvious where the Taiwanese go their wood firing techniques from! The colourings and patterns created by fire and ash are very similar to the pieces one can find in Taiwan, yet the craftsmanship is often less ref...

@mbanu Thank you very much for writing such an extensive and informative post! I shall come back to it often and try some of the techniques described. Very handy!
